Said Goodbye to the CRD today, I will miss it. This Forum is the best! Thanks to all for keeping this forum a great place to visit and a wealth of knowledge! I ended up getting a V8 Dakota but I doubt there any Dakota forums as good as this one.

Oh well, I am sure we are all going to eventually unload those 2 year experimental vehicles. No sense in getting all emotional over it. :juggle: Good luck with the Dakota.

Not really, I can't think of something that would suit our needs better unless it was a 2.8 CRD KK.

I love mine I am sure we will have to part ways with it some day but I am hoping not for a long time.... I can't think of anything else I would want in a Jeep that is. Except a few things we can't get here for now. A JK 2 or 4door with a CRD engine would be nice. I'm not so fond of the KK style but its not ungly enough that it couldn't grow on me. My long term dream would be to pay off my KJ and hopefully the JK CRD will be sold here by then and I can decide to keep my KJ if its still in good shape (i'm hoping so) or trade for a CRD JK.

Our CRD's are not a 2 year experiment in the global sence. they were a success here while they could sell it in the limited numbers they put out, over seas it is a big hit.

My cousin Jason was in Kenya for an acherolicical project and told me they has so many great newer Jeeps over there and most are diesel. The have JK's, KJ's and KK's with CRD engines.

Mikey, just a comment on the comparison with the JK CRD. I am lucky in that I get to drive both the KJ CRD (mine) and the JK Unlimited CRD (that one is my son's). Last year we did a three week trip through Australia's Simpson Desert, and we swapped vehicles from time to time. To me there is no comparison, in comfort and fuel economy the KJ wins hand down. Often on the highway stages getting to the Desert my son would draft me to get his fuel economy up to the point of equaling mine (the JK is a bigger brick than the KJ). The JK feels heavy (probably the solid front axle) and visibility is not as good as the KJ. The KJ is also marginally quicker probably due to the gearing differences (my son's is a manual and I have the RFE545). In terms of offroad performance, a modifed KJ is better than a stock JK. Of course when you spend some money on the JK CRD it really gets better offroad. Over here a rear locker and sway bar disco can be had in an option pack for the JK and that makes a big difference. The Rubicon is not available with the diesel engine for some reason.

I want the JK CRD.. is it basically the same engine as the KJ? If I give you a few bucks can you rent a boat and sneak one over here for me?

I realalize that the KJ has advantages Over the JK in CRD form. it is quieter and more comfortable. Also it has more creature features.... mine has just about all of it heated seats heater mirrors,CD changer, Sirius, sunroof, AC, NAV. you name I am sure mine has its all but Uconnect. It is a very posh ride for a Jeep. I would not likey pick the unlimited JK if I was keeping my liberty I would want the shorter 2 door that might help weight some. I think the Wrangler is just more upgradable to go off road. the KJ with some mods can do a mix of it all driving just fine.

I went on a trip with the local Jeep shop sets up they never had a stock Liberty with the group and never a CRD before me. I impressed them with what the Liberty could do. I was also January and 15°F that day all the others were admiring my heated leather perches. At the end of the day they all wished they had my KJ for the ride home because it seemed more comfortable than theirs and were shocked how well a liberty can wheel. I admitted to using the heated seats all day. so yes the Libery is not just a mall crawler it can preform off road better than it gets credit for, this I know.

Truth be told I like the looks of the JK Wrangler better than the new KK but if I drove both and thought the KK handled better I could lift it and the look is not that bad that to me that it would grow on me. I still like the looks of the KJ more than the KK.... just my preference.

Painemann, the Kj and JK CRD engines are the same in many ways. Same manufacturer, same displacement, same engine block, share many parts, and the early JK CRDs were very close to the KJ CRDs in the engine configuration. The latest JK CRDs use the latest version of the VM2.8 which means a different head to the KJ, and the fuel injection system and injectors are also alittle different. The JK Alloy head also has a cast passage in the head for the EGR gas routing and relocates the FCV and EGR valve, whereas the KJ used an external EGR pipe off the exhaust manifold (easier to block off in my opinion). FYI, GDE has already got a fair number of JK CRDs running around over here. Our local GDE agent has been working with Keith to get the Tunes configured for the JK CRD, and they have also have a Tune ready for the WH CRD as well. We are expecting the new Grand Cherokee CRD to be available here about mid-year - with the VM 3.0L V6 500NM engine!

I seen all the things GDE can tune now the last time I visted his web page. Good for him. I didn't see how in the world he could have kept his business going with just the Limited US KJ CRD market. going global and doing the newer export models was smart of him. Now if they ever sell them here he has a product nearly ready to go for us.
