During the drive to work this morning I noticed a few changes with the updates. Turbo lag is completely gone. Reverse kicks in immediately, even when 18 outside. Unfortunately, I still have a tranny studder, but it seems to have moved up a couple mph. It used to be at 52-54 and is now at 54-56. Overall I'd say it drives 50-75% better, but still not resolved.
While reading my ticket from the dealer, it reads "performed all available updates to power train control module to help cure. There are no transmission updates available at this time." Does this sound correct??
Also, I got a copy of TSB 18-009-06 from the dealer. I can scan as a .pdf file, but I am not sure how to attach it. Can also e-mail it to people, just let me know.
My ticket/invoice specifically references each TSB performed. I have noticed the same improvements as you. One strange thing though... it takes longer to crank the engine over from a cold start now. Maybe this is the improved durability of the glow plug part of the TSB? Yesterday after work in the cold it took a full 5 seconds to fire up when turning the ignition key, after the glow plug lights had gone out. It used to be just a split second of turning the key.
This morning in a warm garage it took about 2 full seconds of key turn to start, used to be instant.
I know on our old Porsche the start was intentially delayed like you described and the reason was to get the oil to engine parts before starting. It gives the oil pump a few turns to build oil pressure before starting to minimize motor wear on start up, as most engine wear is on start up.
Maybe thats the "durablity" part...
If the motor cranks for a full 5 seconds before starting you can be pretty sure full oil pressure has built up by the time it actually starts, Thats not a bad thing in my book. but still, 5 seconds seem a little too long...
I sure wish we could find out what the changes exactly were... We need a buddy on the inside
