Hi all. A couple of weeks ago I did the vehicles first ATF + filters change (103,000km). Other than getting a pan full of ATF in the face it was a non-event. I used a wix filter kit from rock auto.

Now i've starting having the drain back issue and slow to engage tranny that's well talked about on the forum. Lots of people have talked about the problem, but not too many have talked about how their fixes worked. Seems a lot of people just keep driving it - i'd rather fix it.

Has anyone tried just replacing the spin on filter with success? I think that will be my first option - i'll spend the $$$ this time and get a mopar one and check the serial number against the TSB to be sure. I've seen the fix on the forum where you put a check valve in the line. I kind of think this should be repairable without that - it was working fine before the ATF and filter change so it must be something to do with those items.

Thanks
Brett
P.S. Bought a fluid pump to save my face from the ATF this time.

Hi All. just to close out the thread - replaced my spin on filter with a MOPAR one, some fresh ATF and it works perfectly now.

The spin on filter that did not work was a WIX filter purchased through Rock Auto....I know people have had success with WIX, but probably best avoid the rock auto one's in case its a bad batch.

Next email is to Rock Auto to advise them of the problem.

if the problem was just limited to Jeeps it would be a different issue.
most Chrysler auto have this problem at some point in there lives.
I find just putting the auto in neutral instead of R or N first while fastening my seatbelt is enough time to refill the converter.
not on that but it get fluid moving in the tranny before a load is applied. sure my 'solution' is a compromise. the best would be the have the tranny pump running while in park.

X2-3+ I've experienced this problem as far back as a 1984 Gen 1 Plymoth Voyager. Problem always the same atf drain back from TC due to anti drain back valve malfunction. Lot's of different "solutions" to prevent the drain back, some work some don't. Flman's check valve mod is posted on this forum and as far as I know works. A good filter with the valve works but not always long term.

The one thing that does work every time is what dkenny posted. FYI being in neutral is important. There is some thought, mine included, that the tranny doesn't pump in Park. Others say it does. Digging into the FSM it looks like pumping is a 2 stage (high/low) deal and if it pumps in Park it does so on low.
