I was putting on the oem roof rails on my jeep kk and accidentally over torqued one of the bolt and the stud broke into half. (my torque wrench failed and didn't click at the appointed torque value!) the rail seems sturdy enough with only 3 bolts (1 front and 2 rear) on it but I am a little concerned about the durability of the rail now.

Went to dealer today and they asked $110 for labor to weld a new stud on my roof :furious: and $10 for the stud and nut. Major rip off. :banghead: Should I bite the bullet and let them do it or is there any other path I could take?

i'm in the same boat... my conclusion is that I am just gunna drill out the roof and slap in some stronger bolts have everything wleded and call it a day. that way they wont tear out anymore and I will be ready to roll( and possibly rip my roof off but hey... :jester: )

I'd try to see if drilling it out is an option then have a shop weld a new socket in.... Wed be close to that cost for you, but the stealer is pretty spot on about hour labor plus the part. Good luck op hopefully it's easily removed

Awhile back, some one had the dealer weld in a new one. The only advice I can give to drilling it out is to pull the interior panels back and see whats below since the side curtain air bag squib in mounted to the rear...
