LOL... Suggesting that I read my own thread? I'm sure you missed that I was the one asking you about the rebuild kits and motor mounts. No problem, I needed that laugh.
Oh boy, thats embarrassing...
So, frankenturbo is out (great name), did you get a new, OE unit in?
Might want to avoid PUI - Posting under the influence...

The FrankenTurbo is the one that I am running now, working perfectly (knock wood) according to Keith who I asked a couple performance questions.
It was made from a complete center cartridge (turbine and compressor wheel - never disassembled) from the turbo that I had bought brand-new... And which came from the factory with a VNT vane problem. I took the VNT section and turbine housing from the turbo that the center bearing had failed (and the rebuild failed too) and that is how FrankenTurbo came to life.
The failed center cartridge (and the running VNT section) had about 120k miles on them, the running center cartridge has about 35k on it.
When the 120k mile center cartridge bearing failed, the compressor wheel lightly contacted the housing, doing a little bit of polishing. I didn't think it was that bad (can barely feel it) so I tried rebuilding it with the kit. I disagree with Garrett b/c if it can be built, it can be RE-built too. Sure, calibration might be a concern... But that doesn't make it impossible.
What happened however was that the turbo ran great in operation... But made a noise whenever I shut the motor off. This was not something that I was comfortable with allowing, so I pulled it out and created FrankenTurbo with the parts that worked.
Yes, rebuilding IS possible, and YES, I have it calibrated to what I am confident is exactly the same things as the factory design setup.
