Well, what do you know, tranny shuddering is back with a vengeance! This time, it is apparent almost from the get-go, through all shift points and even when letting go of the throttle...

I highly suspect the front pump failing, something I skipped with the Transgo when I did the TC and shift kit a couple years back. Now it comes back to bite me in the lower part of my back! I now recall warp2diesel's words of wisdom about not leaving this to luck... My bad

Question, then: Am I pointing in the right direction?

Reading through some tranny shudder issue posts on the Net, it may indicate another problem, this engine-related... I poured a can of Seafoam last week, as I usually do once a year, and this 1 day prior to the shudder starting. Shudder is constant and mostly felt in 2-3-4 gears, especially when load is applied (throttle or terrain elevation). What mesmerizes me is feeling this shudder even when decelarating in the same gears. Any opinion is welcome, as I am stumped!

I am going to replace oil & filters in the tranny and transfer case tonight. Hopefully this will do the trick, though I am kinda skeptic in the light of the symptoms. More to come...

Check the easy things first.
Check your U-joints.
Also check the rear axle upper and lower control arm joints for wear which might cause pinion angle to change and be off.

May be talking about a couple of different "shudders." The one I've dealt w/ for over 150k miles is the delayed engagement one Warp discussed Flman had a simple quasi fix I have not done yet that I have been told helps. I've bought the parts but have not yet applied....
Another is the TC that bottoms out that you already fixed.
I've never heard shuddering in 2-3-4th gear. Before I swapped parts I swap fluid first and use DCX spec'd stuff only...adding additives as a last resort before part swapping.

Yes, u-joints will be inspected as well! I am going to be pro-active and order a new set today, not that expensive and rather easy to replace. I did those last fall but never got satisfied, because of a low rumble that kept on going...

Rear u-joint on the driveshaft was shot, 1 of the cups had bearings pulverised into powder. Replaced with greasable one and no more vibration from the drivetrain this AM. I had a tough time trying to seat the cups properly, as clips would not fit in, and trying to squeeze further more would seize the joint. Anyway, thx for the tips!

Great job and follow-up post. I'll keep this in mind when mine eventually fails (first set went at about 38k).
