Hello all, I am new to this site and very thankful to find it. I bought my 2006 Sport CRD at the end of December 2006 and absolutely love it so far after nearly 6000 miles. I just had a few questions that hopefully some folks here can help me with...

1. What PSI do you feel is best to run with the stock Wrangler ST tires? I currently run 33 PSI.

2. My MPG sucks (20 MPG at best so far) and I drive very conserativley, any tips?

3. I want to build up the performance a bit and hopefully get better MPG, what are some of the good products out there so far? Cat Back Exhaust, Air Box Mods, Chips, etc. Also what would be some of the best things to start with on a budget?

4. Has anyone gutted their catalytic converters yet? I know they are the straight through type and are difficult to do. I'm wondering about added performance and any extra exhaust stinch.

I'll probably think of some more Q's later, thanks to anyone who can help me out!

1. Been running same tires nitrogen filled @ 40 PSI, tire wear is perfect, with good traction on the cheap tires.

2. Averaging 20 to 22 in town and 27 to 30 hwy.

3. Best budget bang for the buck is to ditch the OEM muffler for a straight threw glass pack, will help turbo spool up faster by relieving back pressure. No real increase in noise either.

4. Don't worry about Cat and you can keep it unclogged by ocassional hard run through the gears.

Does anyone know what kind of turbo the CRD uses? I was wondering if it is something like a IHI VF-22/24 or a Mitsubishi TD035... anyone have any clue?

It uses a Garrett Variable Vane Technology turbo I beleive. It is a VNT for sure, and I will assume it is a Garrett, but you can check the VM Motori website for more info if needed or varify mfg of turbo.

1. I run at max tire pressure of 44 LBS. For OEM tires, they are doing great on my Jeep.

2. With 11K miles, 18.5 - 20 MPG using winter blend B10.

3. Other have stated a high flow muffler. Mine is still stock.

4. Me. No gains in milage, but did notice a increase in smell. That is fixed by using B10 or greater.

Thats pretty good, got a neighbor with a V6 Libby automatic 4x4 Sport and he averages 14 to 15 around town, and 19 highway, so that makes you doing about 30% better then he is doing with the gasser.

I drive mostly highway though

I'm running 38psi in mine and am happy. It'll easily spin the tires in 2WD when it's wet. I don't have Trac-Loc (or however the frack you spell it). Sticks well in Full-time 4WD. Can't wait to switch to Revo's (LOVED them on my Wrangler) but can't justify throwing away tires that still have tread on them.

As for mods - buy an exhaust (I went high-end w/ an Aero-Turbine but glasspacks are getting favorable reviews), leave your cat alone, and get a CCV filter (provent or wait for OldNavy's).

After that just drive it! Mileage will go up a couple mpg's w/ the exhaust and my mileage keeps going up as she's breaking in (10k miles so far). I'm getting 24-25 commuting and 28-29 highway (20mpg towing my 3k lbs trailer).

I have about 8000 miles on my CRD and I am getting 22 mpg in town, on B2 summer diesel.

As far as mods replace the stock muffler with something more open.

Hey thanks everyone for the help, I think I'm just going to go get myself an El'Cheapo glasspack installed on my CRD and go from there.

I'm pretty new to the CRD thing although am not to diesels. I was a light truck mechanic in the Army and know my way around most vehicles pretty well. I own two Subaru websites as well, I'll be hanging around here pretty often :)
