Does anyone know the size of the Allen wrench required to remove the drain and fill bolts on the transfer case? I have every size smaller and one size that's too big, but not the right one :? I have an '03 with a 5-speed tranny. Lately I've had some very loud whining that sounds like gear noise, but I don't know if it's coming from the transmission or the xfer case so I'm going to service both of them. I also looked all over for the fill hole for the transmission, but I can't find it anywhere. I know there's no stalk, so where the heck is the fill port? I feel like such a noob! Thanks!

Thanks Elmer! As far as the tranny fill hole goes, I've looked online and found several different answers. I wanted to know going in, but it looks like I'll have to crawl under there to find out. 1 answer is that the fill hole is on the pass side and it's 14mm, not 17mm like the drain. Another answer is that it's on the driver side and IS 17mm like the drain...I'll let y'all know as soon as I figure it out. First I have to go to the hardware store and pick up the proper Allen sockets. Stay tuned!

Make sure to remove the fill plug first so you don't end up draining the fluid and then find out the fill plug is stuck. You'll see where the fluid goes in/out on your tranny once you climb underneath. Make sure you get a fluid transfer pump with some hoses, because there is no room for pouring down there, and get a good one because if you don't your arm will fall off after the thousandth pump.

Well it turns out it wasn't a case of low fluid. Both tranny and Xfer case were properly lubed. At any rate, the fill port is 17mm, same as the drain, and it is on the driver side.
