I had the ECM and the TCM flashed with the new update. I wasn't having problems before but thought I'd better get it done. Not real happy with the results though and am thinking I wish I hadn't had it done. Around 20mph I have a bit of a jerk under smoothe acceleration. Before the flash I couldn't peel out in gravel unless I turned off the ESP. Now I can peel out in gravel w/o turning off the ESP. I liked having the ESP throttle back for maximum acceleration on slick surfaces. I can even chirp the tires on pavement now with ESP on. So I wouldn't recommend these flash updates unless you're experiencing problems already.

Regrets having it done

My 05 is at the dealer right now because of strange shifting following this reflash. I believe at least the trans has the new software because they had to replace the TCM to get it to take the download. Some of the shifts are very rough at times, especially if I'm not driving it hard. It seems as if you have to accelerate hard through the upshift for it to shift smooth. Sometimes upshifts so hard you can feel a "thump."

Bet ya get a new Torque Converter.... :)

The good part for us 05 owners is that in 70K miles we will have the problems worked out while still in warranty.

Just recently I started to experience the hard shifts. I also experienced the cold morning trans jerk before now letting it warm up 30 seconds. I have also felt the 55MPH shudder. I have an 05. Monday I have an appointment, I'll let everyone know how it goes.

My question is this, has ANYONE had the converter replaced and still have the issues they had before. Conclusively I
am trying to discover is we have even seen a fix either with a flash or converter replacement. We have one confirmed
fix with the TransGo kit in Sweden, and we have another one being installed in Georgia and hopefully mine this weekend.
I realize it is not the dealer fix, but I am looking for any solution that fixes it for good, so far I have not seen that post,
and maybe there are multiple issues that cause it, so the story goes on.

My mechanical experience tells me the same, it just a matter of convincing the dealer. My situation would be slightly different than most because I let mine idle several minutes before driving (don't see the cold slip) and although I have 12,000 miles it doen't go through many shift cycles (probably 95% expressway mileage). I have the 100K warranty.

Yep, but at a $100 deductible per visit out of our own pocket. :x

Here is a link to someone, "oz_crd" that still has problems after the torque converter was replaced. Maybe this link will be updated with more current information as a final resolution has not been posted yet.

I experienced a mild shudder this morning will driving with the O/D off at about 1800 to 1900 rpm, I think I was doing about 45 mph. I wasn't at my best due to it being about 0130 in the morning and having to pick up sick daughter at work. This is the first time I have ever had this happen, I heve tried to get it to happen before, but with the O/D on instead of off as this morning. Now I am starting to wonder about the choice of trannys. I have wondered if in Europe they used the MB 5-speed W5A580 automatic transmission in the Cherokee with this engine, this trans is also used in the Sprinter Van, MB I6 E-class CDI diesel here and in Europe and the LX platform cars from 3.5L V6, 5.7L V8 Hemi and the 6.1L SRT8 Hemi with about 450 lbs of torque. The W5A580 was designed to handle 600+ lbs of torque and would have been the ideal choice I would think, I'm guessing they might have used the 545R due to availability problems.

What does the TransGo kit consist of and how difficult is the install? Would most of us require a trans tech to install this kit?

The $100 can be waved for known service problems.

Here are the instructions for the Transgo kit:

http://www.apsprecision.com/45RFE%20Shi ... ctions.pdf

It doesn't look that hard. I'd say if you can change the trans filters you can install this kit.

Under the 100k extended warranty $0 deductible.

FYI: Mine is ready for pick-up at the dealer. Did nothing to the transmission, not even filter TSB as they claim trans is working as designed.
As for the oil sucking through the turbo seals, DC said it is "normal." Told me oil consumption of 1qt/1000 miles is DC's standard as acceptable for the CRD. Waiting to see the paperwork before I take this to the next level.

I know the thread is for the 2005 flash but I had my 2006 (05 build date) flashed with the 06 TSB and reading from the procedure, the reprogram of the TCM is separate from the reprogram of the ECM. According to the TSB, there are two different procedures. First they do the TCM, then the ECM.

And, of course, the TSB also states:

"NOTE: The following step is required by law when reprogramming a PCM and/or TCM." It then gives instructions for completing and attaching the "Authorized Modification Label".

If this info is in the middle pages of the thread, I apologize for repetition. I read the oldest pages and the latest only.

Sticker under hood says: "reflashed PCM and TCM" and lists the TSB 18-008-06 and the date of service.

So far, I am not impressed. Seems worse with OD/off.

At 22k miles I just have recently noticed a studder or hard shift. I had my wife drop it off this morning. I did not mention any of the TSB's, just what I had noticed while driving. I just got a call from my wife and she told me that they had fried the computer and were ordering a new one. They also told her that there is something physically wrong with the tranny, but won't know what until they get the new computer. I will keep you guys posted as I get first hand clarification.

Thank you. That explains the label under the hood on mine. I figured that's what it was, but now I know for sure it's been done.

Had the same problem with mine with the TCM. I can also tell you there is something physiaclly wrong with my trans but the dealer won't admit to it or take any action to repair. Just today, went to back up a short but steep grade and it groaned and slipped. So much fun I did it twice. Maybe if I do it enough it will grenade and they will have to fix it.

I hate to say it, but I have known of several cases where a warranty problem had to be taken to its ugly end before it got resolved.

I spoke with the service rep. he won't know until tomorrow, but he thought that he would need to replace the torque converter. I will know more tomorrow.

Same here. First few days, no stutter, but today, it started again, very slightly, nothing like it was, but it seems the tsb didn't fix the transmission problem completely. Will wait a couple of weeks to see if the tranny adjusts a little more.

Well it adjusted itself right into destruction today. Shudder and stalling when coming to a stop, grinding in reverse, terrible noise and shudder when accelerating and bad, terrible odor of burning tranny fluid today. Dealer says it has to be disassembled for warranty and doesn't have much hope for anything but a replacement.

Trying to predict the demise of mine. How long did it take from when it first started acting-up until it came apart? What did you do, call the 800-tow-my-Jeep number? Maybe need to get that one in my speed dial.
