I'll let you all know tomorrow what it is.
Pretty sure I'll at least have a better idea when my mechanic friend looks at it.
I think something is sticking or rubbing on the inside brake pad area.
If I tap on the inside brake pad area with a screwdriver near the clips, it makes a similar sound to what I'm hearing.

Does anyone know if using brake clean is safe on an engine bay? Especially the rubber hoses and electrical. And if safe, will it leave a white residue?

That stuff attacks plastic, I wouldn't use it. Engine Bright might be ok, not sure though.

Any waterless applications?

The whole engine bay is muddy, which was purposly done going through mud puddles relatively fast. I want to stay away from pressure washing the engine bay.

Steam cleaning and dry ice blasting I've seen do a great job, but don't necicarily want to sink my money in to a unit that would suit me.

Well since I have 75K on the original front brakes, my buddy said he can see that the rotors are going to need to be replaced or resurfaced.
Was thinking about doing it myself and and replace the brake pads with it.
Now time to start price shopping and reading up on front brake threads.

21.2 mpg today on a 220 mile trip. Used just over 1/2 a tank.

(Roof basket in the garage, not on the KK)

Share your knowledge oh great one!

Pretty sure most KKs get 200 miles with under 1/4 tank left. How in the hell did you get that mileage?

What type of driving were you doing. Etc city and highway percentage.

And what avg. speed.

Ok, full disclosure, it is a drop in elevation from State College to southeastern PA, so I had gravity assist. Going the other way I averaged 19.5 mpg.

US322 is mostly a 55 mph limited access highway with some stretches of 65. There are lots of rolling hills. The rest was mostly I-76, the PA turnpike, with 65-70 mph speeds. I tucked in behind two semis that were running about 65 mph, following at a safe distance, but getting some help from their draft. I have a Scangauge that tells me my instant mpg, so I am able to get feedback about my driving style in the moment, so I can modify what I'm doing to get the best mpg. I did a little experimenting. I can get the same boost to mpg from following trucks at 65 mph as I can get by driving 55 pushing all the air myself (about 21 mpg average). Long haul trucks with side skirts on the trailer have the cleanest slip stream and provide the most benefit. If I go 70 on the interstate without following a truck, the best I can get is about 18.3 mpg average. Before taking off the roof basket, the best I could do in that situation was about 16-16.5 mpg. So not keeping the roof basket on the Jeep unless I need it for camping is making a big difference in these long highway trips. (Almost like gas got 10-15% cheaper!)

Here are the mods to my Jeep that might matter to mpg:
4 inch JBA lift kit
245/75/16 Goodyear Duratracs
Skid plates & sliders (a bit of extra weight)
Still running the stock tune and 3.7 throttle body. (No Hypertech or 4.7 TB)
Roof basket and crossbars off.

Nice, Lauren!
I got 21.6mpg on a 85 mile trip down the shore and the trip back was 19.6mpg.
It's nice having a ScanGauge. 8)

Why do we keep loosing KK owners to TJs and JKs? What does a TJ or JK do that the KK cant? :-)r :goink:

Why did you sell the KK?

Why don't you buy back your KK :|

Don't get L.O.S.T!

I'll be joining him in the JKU world eventually. I like the look of them, and the ability to remove the doors and roof is enough to sell me on one lol. Other than the fact that you can easily build them to be v8 powered and spin 40s, there isn't much more a similarly equipped JK can do that a KK can't.

Its got FLEX! would be cool if the KKs came with sfa instead of ifs.

Ill be getting a wrangler soon, but it will be a trail rig. My KK will be road and trail. thinking on a TJ, but wish they came in a 4 door model.

just found this on one of Nicks old topics...

http://jeepinbyal.com/liberty-2008-2012-kk/rear-shocks-and-coil-springs/jba-total-control-rear-shock.html

Didn't know he already makes them, but I assume this is a direct replacement for a stock to a 3 inch lift. He told me he has 4", 6", and 8" in testing. The 8" I believe he said was for the American Cherokees.

Look into a LJ if you want a longer model. The difference in room is pretty crazy.

Went to my mechanic that I trust with my jeep this afternoon. Sadly he couldn't do it mainly because they really are just a maintenance shop. They used to do regearing and differential related stuff, but don't anymore because there is no demand from their customers. He recommended another shop 20 minutes down the road. I talked to the owner and mechanics, and I'm fairly impressed with their level of knowledge about regearing and lockers as well as jeeps. Only issue though.... they're a specialty shop.... say goodbye to a 2k labor fee... :furious:

just wondering, does any 3.7l jeep have the "issue" when driving home from off roading or driving in the summer heat and have torque loss along with a different sounding engine? sound like more raspy. engine temps are fine btw.
