Share your knowledge oh great one!
Pretty sure most KKs get 200 miles with under 1/4 tank left. How in the hell did you get that mileage?
What type of driving were you doing. Etc city and highway percentage.
And what avg. speed.
Ok, full disclosure, it is a drop in elevation from State College to southeastern PA, so I had gravity assist. Going the other way I averaged 19.5 mpg.
US322 is mostly a 55 mph limited access highway with some stretches of 65. There are lots of rolling hills. The rest was mostly I-76, the PA turnpike, with 65-70 mph speeds. I tucked in behind two semis that were running about 65 mph, following at a safe distance, but getting some help from their draft. I have a Scangauge that tells me my instant mpg, so I am able to get feedback about my driving style in the moment, so I can modify what I'm doing to get the best mpg. I did a little experimenting. I can get the same boost to mpg from following trucks at 65 mph as I can get by driving 55 pushing all the air myself (about 21 mpg average). Long haul trucks with side skirts on the trailer have the cleanest slip stream and provide the most benefit. If I go 70 on the interstate without following a truck, the best I can get is about 18.3 mpg average. Before taking off the roof basket, the best I could do in that situation was about 16-16.5 mpg. So not keeping the roof basket on the Jeep unless I need it for camping is making a big difference in these long highway trips. (Almost like gas got 10-15% cheaper!)
Here are the mods to my Jeep that might matter to mpg:
4 inch JBA lift kit
245/75/16 Goodyear Duratracs
Skid plates & sliders (a bit of extra weight)
Still running the stock tune and 3.7 throttle body. (No Hypertech or 4.7 TB)
Roof basket and crossbars off.
