Rant on, Zeero! I understand swapping out parts for aftermarket stuff to alter performance characteristics, but to do it just so the Jeep won't keep breaking really bugs me too. I haven't had anywhere near the problems with my KJ that some owners here have, but the threat is always hanging over our heads...hopefully this ball joint fix will put an end to this problem and we won't have to keep checking them every few thousand miles... :!:

If they would of made the libby more hardcore than it is, do you believe they would be selling as many as they do? Remember, the libby is the best selling small suv out there and seems to be very, VERY reliable. If you look around on the xj forum(I know they are old but still) they have MANY break downs on the trail. All the of the stuff on the libby seems to very small and are very easy to fix. Pay the extra money and get some Moog balljoints, pay for the engine engine driven fan, dont jump the libby.

The fact is they don't need to make the Liberty as a whole, more hardcore...they just need to offer a model that can hack it.

Example? The TJ...and Upcoming JK......they make a very basic sport model for those that really kinda never intend on using it....but then they put out the Rubicon....out of the box ready to rock.....you decide your own level of involvement.

Whats the problem with doing that for the Liberty, or the Commander......??

The Cherokee? Yeah for 2007/08 they are introducing an "Overland" model....ie: The Grand Cherokee Overland.......all the minor add ons for the trail...at least in Canada anyway its being intro'd.

Still no word on the Liberty......I'm just worried its going to go the route the compass is right now.....no more Renegade, etc..... its just going to go Mall Crawl style, and the consumer is going to have spend an absolute fortune just to get the thing trail worthy on the most basic level.

I'm just disapointed.....thank god I've had no problems except for a strut failure.....but others have had some really bad problems from LIGHT LIGHT wheeling.

Example?? Climbing a minor incline and KABANG!!!! The front diff. grenades itself....wow....thats some serious trail there guys...better not climb that hill....give me a break..!

Anyway....I think the Liberty is awesome because its different....it packs the punch that most think it doesn't......but, its these little annoying things always hanging over my head that really get me.

i have a 2003 sport... it has 4lo and no badge... does this make not count my jeep as 'trail rated'?

Ive never heard of anyone going up a small hill and blowing the diff? It always includes some kind of bouncing or alot of spinning. The overland grand cannot do anything the libby cant. Put a locker in the libby and I guarantee it can go more places an overland can. :)

i haven't spent a fortune... i'm pretty sure i can keep up with above average rigs...

i think you just have a case of "post trail failure depression" even though the failures were not your own, you feel the pain because they were the same make and model vehicle... don't worry, you'll get over it...

every rig has weaknesses

i got a question!!! If i have a lift on my KJ, and i blow up the front diff, do you think iits going to be covered by the warranty or do they have a viable claim that my lift and bigger tires is what killed my diff. ?

They could say the tires did it. Thats why I kept my old tires and can just throw those on if anything ever happens. Then again, there was a guy that was denied warranty on the EGR valve b/c he had an aftermarket muffler. Ill never understand that one. :?

ya DC is so sticky with warranty. I'm surprised my warranty was honoured on my rad fan! It was clearly packed with mud...

Let me just say that I didn't buy the Liberty expecting it to be this monster trail rig right out of the box. I know I will have to put some time and money into it in order to make it the way I invision it to be but hey I don't care I love to wrench on my jeep. I take great pride in it. Even if I had bought a TJ or even the rubicon model I still would have had to put money into that thing as it will only get you so far. Everyone has a vision of how they want there Jeep to look and perform. My dream for my KJ is a 4 to 5" IFS lift, custom bumpers, 33's, regeared, locked, armored...you know the works! And when I get this all done I am going to take this thing riding and if I break something, well thats ok. It's my hobby and makes me happy.

The KJ is great, what other jeep can you fit all your friends and family in, load it up with various types of cargo (groceries being one) and then with a pull of a lever take it off roading over rocks through water and sand and back again. Can't do that in a TJ.

Agreed completely...however, just be careful around that water and sand....your fan motor may not be happy about that situation.

i think the 4 door unlimited rubicon is gonna be darn sweet! In black of course... It reminds me of a mini convertible H1... All you need is a chain gun mounted to the roll bar
