The CCV is designed to vent unburned blowby from the engine
Blow by gasses are partially unburned, not fully unburned - hence, soot and soot loaded oil will get by - but we are talking tiny amounts right now.
Initially durring break-in and then again as the engine gets many, many miles on it and the rings are not so tight sealing and the quantity of blow-by gasses will dramatically increase. All I'm saying is I'm not convinced the EHM is needed at this time.
Up here in the cold zone the discharge of the tube will probably freeze up so I'm not rushing to this kind of solution. How far down did you hang your catch bottle?
I can't remember, but did we ever give these units a chance or were they too big:
http://www.parker.com/racor/ccv_intro.htmlThey are huge and do not fit well. The simuliar ProVent was reported to freeze up in the north country from reports of a couple of VW owners in central Canada.
Regular oil spray vapors in the valve covers are a huge problem also and seem to be the bigger problem in the VW's and that may also be true here.
Since I live in a moderate climate I doubt that I will have any winter problem of liquid freezing in the catch bottle. The bottle which just touches the top of the frame rail, and should stay clear of any winter slush.
This oil in the intake get WORSE as the engine breaks in, I speak with 6 years experience of working with VW's with this same system. I designed and sold on the VW TDI forum a sucessful CCV filter and the test bed vehicles were about 15 cars ranging from new to 60,000 mile range. Cars that had more blowby were the ones with more miles on the engines and a couple that were using non synthetic oil, including one guy that was using a 15w-40 diesel oil.
