Guys, I have had ours in to the dealer six times and it has only 18K miles. I am worried that it will progressively get worse or the warranty will run out and it will continue on this path.
Do you guys have any suggestions as to what I should do to help protect myself from a possible future expense?

Thanks

Might want to give us some info on what it went to the dealer for each time and the fix.

Since you have a 2005, you have the 7/70 powertrain warranty, so as far as anything major like the tranny you will be procted up to 7 years or 70k. The only way to avoid expense after your warranty runs out is to buy an extended warranty.

Was this the same problem each time you took it in? The only others things you could try to do would be to either lemon law it or sell it.

If you give us some more details about what went wrong, we may be able to offer you some additional advice.

Here's what I had. Direct from dealer print out.

3 glow plugs
1 ECU
1 Flash upgrade and a wiring problem with the injectors
1 boost sensor

Now a recall for ball joints.

We love the Jeep and don't intend to sell it. I thought if I raised enough hell they might give me a break on the cost after the warranty.

Also, does the 7/70 warranty cover every engine parts? i.e. glow plugs, injectors, ...

I don't think so. I can't seem to find the details on the warranty, and I have a 2006 which doesn't have the 7/70 powertrain warranty.

Depends on the definition of an engine part. Check the fine print in your warranty book. For instance, there is a significant argument over the EGR parts which are itemized as excluded after the 3/36 expires. Diesel engine manufacturers are notorious for not covering fuel injection parts, will always state it was "mis-fueled" and renig on the warranty. I suggest you shop an extended b2b warranty for the rest of the items. I got a 7yr/100K mile, zero-deductible (covers the $100/visit deductible in the 7/70) for @ $1200 when I bought the Jeep.

If you want to keep the CRD, the only way to protect yourself somewhat financially is to purchase an extended Chrysler warranty. They can be purchased online from Jeep/Chrysler dealers for less than retail. The price would be less than one repair visit for an egr/glow plug replacment out of your own pocket. By the time a 7/70 extended warranty is nearing expiration you will have a better idea of whether the CRD will continue to have issues or not.
