Makes sense.

Looking at the RL bumper pics now. So far, looks like a smart design... spare is behind the driver, shackle tabs and tow wiring harness are mounted at about the right height to keep'em out of the way.

Their page says "Bumpers come standard with filler caps for the areas directly under the taillights, where our tire carrier and Jerry Can carrier can be added at any time."

They don't have any pics of the filler caps in place or of how the tire carrier and jerry can carriers actually connect to the bumper. The pic they have of the cammo KJ with the spare doesn't show how it connects because the spare blocks the view. I'd like to see what the carriers are like when installed. Know where we can find some?

Thanks, Ivan.

and why is that? have you ever used a RRO rockfather lift? i highly doubt it if you caution like that....since you mentioned you had a daystar and a frankenlift, then im guessing youve only read the negative things about the OTT kits....which is NOT what hes talking about here

rocky road is a great company...

i have a rockfather II kit, and its awesome..... you dont need the Al's A-Arms ... when i put my lift on it didnt rub anything, but in order to fix the alignment a bit, and to get the greasable moogs, i put them on as well ... but AFTER the lift

frankenlift is a great kit, and so is RRO's rock father...... i do advise to stay away from RRO's OTT kits, but its not just RRO that has problems with that, its any "spacer lift" that will mess up your suspension parts

and the DT shocks are really nice, i have them on my jeep ....i like them

EOD, You are doing the same thing that you feel is wrong with Signcutter's post. You are making a statement without actual experience from what you have said. You attack ALL Spacer kits. Have you tried them all?

Renegadekj's put trust into a company, RR, and while many documented problems are with their OTT, they still sell it. Is that truly a company you can trust? They left him out to dry.

Joe - thanks for the info, didn't realize they were a true grass-roots business.

PBrug - thanks for the correction.

KJ04 - Can you send me the link to the info on the 500lb OME springs and the 465 Kings? I can hold off. I'm stuck in Germany until July 2008. Germans aren't into off roading, so I may have a hard time finding a shop that can handle my upgrades, let alone the shipping issues. To bad because our unit is moving to SE Germany, lots of great wheeling locations there.

Anyone know of any Jeep clubs in Germany (I'm almost afraid to specify KJ Club, we few, we happy few...)

Thanks again, Ivan.

actually most OTT / spacer lifts i know of hurt your suspension, and all companies continue to sell them......it is not the product that is wrong / bad, so they do not need to stop selling them....

the reason they hurt the suspension is because you have the same travel in your struts/shocks but a taller length to travel, and this adds extra stress and expedited wear and will eventually/quickly wear out those stock parts.....if you add in upgraded and longer travel shocks/struts as well as the OTT you should not have a problem

you can attribute this sort of result not to the parts but to the upgrade performed, and can compare this to almost any upgrade for a vehicle where you do not perform the supporting modifications to make this work.....

take for example a normal car like a civic, and you want to make it faster, sooo you throw on a turbonetics turbocharger kit, but fail to upgrade your injectors and computer.....so the car is performing a little better, yet still not to its full potential at all, and also now you have a car that is running super lean and will eventually and very quickly blow the motor due to not having the supported modifications to make the previous modification safe and allowing it to work correct

was this turbonetics fault you did not do it right? no....they simply supply the parts........ did the OTT kit do the trick and give your vehicle a cheap and affordable lift? yes it did ... but is it RRO's fault that you did not upgrade shocks and struts to compensate for the added height and suspension travel that comes along with a spacer lift? no....only the person who purchased the kit, and therefore theres no problem with the product that RRO offers because it does its job and is made from quality parts....

anytime you modify a piece of a vehicle away from factory specs you have to look into the whole range of things, and make sure everything will make sense and work , and also understand the negative aspects of a modification.... i dont see performance cars upgrading their vehicle but complaining that they have a lot less of a mpg ratio after all the work....

taken DIRECTLY from RRO's website under the suspension page:

Quote:
Shocks.

No suspension system would be complete without longer shocks to accommodate the extra lift and suspension flex requirements. If you lift your Liberty more than an inch in the rear, the stock shocks will be too short and will top out. Plan on picking up a set of our great riding shocks if you lift your Jeep. Gas charged shocks tend to ride stiff and bouncy. Most performance oriented offroad shocks are oil damped as a result.... but some shops still stick to the cheaper gas shocks. We also like to avoid ultra firm shocks like Rancho, ProComp, etc. that are designed for trucks weighing thousand of lbs more then the Liberty. For this reason, we recommend Doetsch Tech oil damped shocks as a great compliment to our above listed lift kits.

you pay to play....and a SPACER lift is exactly what that says, something to make your vehicle spaced up and taller....no where does it say it is a suspension upgrade

EOD - roger, the hip bone's connected to the leg bone, the leg bone's connected to the... One mod has a domino affect on other parts. I'm clear on that, that's why I'm asking so many questions.

One for you... do you have the 3000 or 8000 DT shocks?

Thanks, Ivan.

its cool you are asking questions to make sure, i just hate how this site will slander one company when others have the same problem with the same product..... rustys spacer lift messes up things too, but they still buy from rustys.... oh well

with my rockfather i got a year ago i took the springs made for the aftermarket bumper and the DT 8000 rear shocks

I know what you mean, I'm just trying to stay objective so I can make a good choice. I'll more likely to make a mistake if I get personally attached to one brand or another.

So you have DT8000s. If I go with RF2, I'd be tempted to go with the 8000s to compensate for the additional weight of an aftermarket bumper. I also don't ever want to turn down a trail which I would have taken if I had the 8000s.

My worry is that it'll ride way too stiff during normal on road driving. I don't tow anything, but can if I ever need to. Is the stiffness tolerable? I can deal with it if it's just a stiff truck-like ride.

Has anyone had any bad experiences with DT shocks? I think I saw one complain on LOST about them not fitting or riding right, but that's it.

Ivan.

i remember reading about how they didnt fit, but thats because he used the wrong plastic spacer that comes with it, it comes with a few different sizes for diff applications

they ride fine, not hard, not soft....my jeep feels just like stock cept a bit higher, maybe even rides better

you wont be dissapointed

OK, thanks. Let us know how things go with your RF2, both good and bad.

You're like an experiment.

Later. Ivan.

For upper A arms you might want to look at www.jeepinbyal.com. They come with serviceable and replaceable MOOG ball joints.

edit: I just realized that there was more than one page to this post and that I'm way behind the power curve. Sorry for the redundant post.

The RF2 is a good lift, I've had one on my 03 Sport for about 3 years. I haven't dealt with RRO lately, but the 3 times I purchased items from them I was satisfied with the transactions, and I wouldn't hesitate to buy there again.

Cool, and thanks for the feedback. Seems like both the Frankenlift and RF2 are good buys. And know what my arm options are and where to get them. Good deal.

I still have questions on the bumpers and 265?75 R16s though. I'll start fresh with a different thread for those.

Thanks to all that participated in this thread.

Ivan.
