PLEASE READ CAREFULLY!!!
I am going to make 2 or 3 threads bc I have many ?'s. First Things First I have a 2004 Libby Limited with a Rusty's budget lift 2.5". 245/75/16 Firestone Destination Mt's(they fit perfectly) only minor rubbing on inner fender. My ? is now that I have done the lift my gear ratios are way off has anyone changed the ring and pinion in the rear of their libby? I am thinking about changing to 4.10's and a lock right locker. I haul a trailer 6.5'x 12', steel frame and wood floor (not a box trailer) with mesh gate, and two sometimes three quads. I need to change them because about 50% of my driving is interstate and the poor old thing just can't carry her own weight. I have changed the plugs and air filter, the fuel filter is non-changable unless I drop the tank, just trying to get the most efficiency out of it. if you can post up how long it took you to complete project and about how much cost went into project. I have been looking around for ring and pinion sets and they can be bought fairly cheap for the chrysler 8.25 I just don't know what ones are good. I am looking for a cheap reliable set that are gonna be quiet(I know there will be noise from the locker that's beside the point). While we are at it are the diff guards worth it? :) Thanks Ert

A rear diff guard is worth having if you wheel in a lot of decent size rocks. unixx sells gears and install kits and has done the 4.10's.

THere are several other people that have done 4.10s in the rear, kyliberty, tjkj2002 for example.

You do not want a lock right. Powertrax No-Slip at the least.

Yes you do have to the main point of the ? was to get people talking about regearing differentials to see if anyone had done it and what gears they used and how much trouble and money I am looking at spending. please dont take this the wrong way I am fully aware of the project ahead of me i just wanted to have some input and maybe some insight from seasoned professionals that have done this kind of thing once or twice. thanks for the concern ERT :)

I have not done a regear in a KJ but have on TJ and a YJ
I think that on a KJ you will need to remove the front diff from the rig on a TJ you just re move the cover
the only way to get gears for the front new is from the dealer and the only option lower than 3.73 is 4.10
the rear is about the same as any other rear diff no secrets that I know of

and now my OPPINIONS on what to do
when regearing and locking dont go cheep
that is if you are going through the trouble to regear why not go with a full case locker ,Detroit?
They cost only a few more $$ and are WAY stronger
Then if you are pulling the front just as well do something up there like a Tru trac or if you have the coin an ARB locker
or go ARB out back and TT up front

IDK just what I will be doing

You can only go to 4.10's. There are aftermarket 4.10's for the rear, but not the front. Only the front gears from Mopar will fit. We swapped a low milage front diff from a wrecked 4 cylinder KJ to get the 4.10's in the front of mine. They will be a much better match for your 245/75R16's.

Gris and Unixx have also done the swap to 4.10's. Hopefully either one will chime in with some help. If not, you could PM them and ask.
