I just wanted to thank those that were the most instrumental in my choice for a lift. While a number of members weighed in during my many inquiries, Tommudd finally convinced me to go with OME and ARBSeth suggested going with a Light/Medium combo.

I was a bit concerned that I might regret going with the "Light" front springs. I couldn't be more pleased with the ride. I didn't put any conduit nuts in for a clevis lift, just the OME springs. It seems fairly level to me. I suppose the real test will be if it settles any.

My benchmark for handling was a rain drainage dip that crosses the street near our home. With the stock springs I had to slow way down (15 mph) or the KJ would bottom out and bounce. With the new springs and shocks, it just glides over the dip at 25 to 30 mph.

Looks like I'll have plenty of room to move up a size or two on the tires. I keep coming back to the GY Wrangler Silent Armor but I haven't decided if I want to go to the 245/65/17 (29.5 inches), the 235/70/17 (30 inches) or the 245/70/17 (30.6 inches). While the first two only come in a P- Metric size with 4-plies, the latter is an LT with 10 plies. I'm just not sure if I want to give up gear ratio to run an LT but the tougher tire and extra sidewall would be a plus.

:D

I almost forgot. Thanks also go out to Heather at All J. She was extremely helpful and answered all my questions. All J is one vendor that I will definitely do business with again.

Only 1.5" of lift? Probably won't want to run the 245/70R17's... They rub a little on my rig, front and back with 2.5" of lift. I'd imagine they'd be quite a bit worse if I was sitting an inch lower.

Glad you like the OMEs sandracer,  8) I always try and give the best advice I know and what works the best for me, but then later think now if the person doesnt like it...... my name is going to be mud, :? OH wait it is mudd!
Seriously the OME springs are great and ride really well for sure! I doubt that they settle that much at all so you are about where you will stay. So Enjoy the ride!
by the way it looks good

:D Thanks Tom.

Dje Ryu ~ I really appreciate the input on the 245/70's. I'm guessing that you are running the stock rims. Are you running any spacers behind the wheels?

Yeah stock rims, for now, and no spacers.

Rancho RSX front and rear.

Dje Ryu ~ Thanks for the info.

ThunderbirdJunkie ~ New shoes are gonna have to wait. But, some well placed sidewall punctures should help expedite the matter.

Which model/part #s? I'm guessing RSX 17004 (rear) and RSX 17505 (front). Is that correct?

Your rig looks even better now!

Thanks. Yup, same part numbers on the RSX's.

I'm very happy with the ride. Much better than the stock springs and shocks.

My wife was concerned that it would end up real stiff and "wagon-like" like our old Scout II that had a Rancho leaf spring lift. Thankfully, it didn't.

Another Scout II owner! Right on! 8) (I had a '74 IH Cabtop.)

I know some Jeepers detest Scouts (and vice versa). However, I'm one of those that think Scouts & Jeeps are two of the best, out of the box, off-roaders you can get. Besides, they just look freakin' cool!

BTW, nice Liberty. Your wife should enjoy it. Even with the lift, it looks like it hasn't even been touched. Although, I'm sure you'll take care of that in due time... :P

For KJ Justice ~ Here's what the Liberty replaced:

Image

The old cornbinder worked very well offroad with Dana 44's, Locking rear, Rancho lift, V8, auto and 33 x 10.50's, but wasn't real comfortable on longer trips to get to more areas to explore. It now has a happy new home in Flagstaff.

I'm with KJ Justice in that I like Scouts. The first vehicle I ever drove was a 1961 Scout that my father bought new. But, my sons both learned to drive in our CJ-7 with a "granny low" 4-speed. Years ago, Sears had a special catalog for Jeep and Scout parts. Many parts would fit either vehicle.

Meanwhile............... back to the KJ; We just put the first 100 miles on the new lift with absolutely no change in MPG, as expected. In about another week, I'll take it in for an alignment.

Yesterday we had the KJ loaded up with shelving from the hardware store, samples from the flooring store and groceries (probably about 300 pounds in all). The rear springs didn't drop a bit. Now that it's starting to cool off, I'll hook up the boat and get an idea how the medium rear springs do with a bit more load.

Nothing better than old Scouts and the early Broncos, yours looked good. Newer 4WDs just dont have the personality of them, or at least I dont think so.

Well at least not until you lift them, drill holes in them, cut them here and there, add this and that and make them your own
