I am getting tires in a week or 2. Going with general grabber at2. I am lifted. 245/70/16 or 255/70/16 ? I do not want to trim anything (that is why I opted against 245/75/16.

Any experience? If you have them, do you like them?

Stock wheels ok?

should be fine, i run 255/65 tires with VERY little rubbing and i have no lift. So 255/70 would be fine

nope, it be fine. I can stuff mine at full flex and it doesnt rub. Again i have no lift either.

But you do have a 65 series tire which is lower profile!!!!!!!!!!!So no it would not rub where a 70 or 75 series may....duh

not with a lift! theres a reason why people can fit bigger tires with a lift and cant without one. 255/70 is BARELY bigger then 255/65 and he will have a lift. With a lift the tire will have much more room to angle inwards before it stuffs into the fender. And extra 2.5 inches and his series tire is barely any taller.

If i can stuff a 255/65 tire with a stock lift then why wouldnt he be able to suff a 70 series tire with one? the width is not an issue, i have already proven that.

I have a very difficult time believing that you have no rub issues with a 255/65 (16 or 17?) on an unlifted KJ. I rub in my driveway with my 245/75s on my prelowered 02.

to the OP-go the 245/75 route. the 255/70-16s will be just as tall and wider, so you'll see MORE rub issues than with a 245/75

more rub on account of the width? 245/75/16 have near .5 inch more height. And about .5 less width. I cant believe it is all that close to be concerned with .5" but I am the one posting the question

I believe 245/75/16 would be better off road (I am a tall skinny guy)

BUT I had come to the conclusion 255/70 would require less trimming.

NOW I am deciding it pretty much doesnt matter, both will require some work, but will likely fit with stock rims and no spacers????????

Maybe ill flip a coin. Unless some one is convincing either way.....

I have stated in another thread that at FULL lock, i have an extremy slight rub, that you can not hear or feel, but can see a little tire line on the inner fender on the front. But i can fully stuff these tires and clear the fenders, i have many times, once i can get ahold of a digi cam i will be sure to take pictures to prove it so to you. Oh btw they are 16 inch rims, stock for a renegade.

And of course you would have rubbing issues with a 75 series tire on a stock kj, your tires are like an inch taller then mine, i leave my driveway turning 3/4 of the way and its not a flat driveway, has a bump at the end and i do not rub or hit the fender. I do it every morning.

BTW 255 tires make the KJ look awesome, i love that extra width, makes it look more agressive. If you are runnin a lift, that little bit of height difference between 70 and 75 series isnt going to make much of a difference at all.

I just put 255x70x16's on last weekend and compared to the rubber band crap that was on there before, these things rock! I used to have to be extremely careful about accelerating in the rain, but now I have to try to break 'em loose. I ended up with Dean Trail Cat AT's and they seem to provide a really good bang for the buck. (I got all 5 mounted, balanced, etc for < $550 out the door)

I don't do any rock climbing or anything like that, but I haven't noticed any rubbing anywhere yet. I'll look closer tomorrow to make sure.

Try 'em... you'll like 'em!

edited: Forgot to mention that I don't have a lift and I have the stock aluminum wheels that came with the CRD.

Thanks. Good to hear they will likely fit, even if they rub, I am convinced now that I will likley have to trim some so they will stuff comfortably.

I did not know Dean Tire Co. still made tires, thought Cooper bought them or something. I used to have Dean wildcats on an old 4-runner (first vehicle) and they were really good tires. Might check it out.
