I've had different sets of exhaust, and tips don't change the sound...sorry.

Tips dont really do anything at all when you have a muffler making a ton of racket oh like flowmaster for instance.But when you have a true free flow (no muffler) A large tip will deffinately change the sound specially on a diesel. Small tips are as u stated for looks. :D 8)

Umm no. Lets step back here, these are tips:

http://images.stylintrucks.com/handlers ... EzJm89MA==

They are shiny pieces of chrome of billet that BOLT ON to the existing exhaust pipe. Yes, a free flowing bigger exhaust would of course change the sound and is great for a diesel. But, you totally kill that idea by restricting the air flow all the way through the exhaust (2.5" exhaust piping from the header back) and then just welding on a huge exit pipe.

my vote is in for no change in sound with diff tips...

hold on... i think i might know what your geting at...

if a cheerleader has a "sound" when she talks... then when she uses a "bullhorn" the "sound" is the same just louder.. is that what you saying??

if the above is correct, then i still agree with the tip does not change the soun d just makes it louder. (like an echo tip on the big trucks)

<mod -1> troll </mod> :)

Seriously, the one thing I DO like about my CRD's exhaust is the fact that you can't see the tip at all unless you look from less than 3 feet up. I've always admired the utilitarian placement of exhaust components on some vehicles (ala range rover classic). As high as possible and the tips just low enough to clear the bodywork and not asphixiate the owner and to not create excessive backpressure.

If the vehicle isn't jet-propelled, then leave the thrust nozzles out :P
