Wisconsin, LA, MAssachusetts, and Australia. That's pretty cool!
The problem is not the 245/70r16 tires, its the 16x8 rims with 5" of backspacing. They push the tires far enough out so that the rears just kiss the fender flares in the top middle when bouncing up over a bump.
I ran my 30x9.50 tires on my xj, basically the same size as 245/70r16, at 32 psi for years so I should be ok.
I've got 4.5" back space (so 12mm more offset, than the 5") + my tyres are 20mm wider (265's). I think, but it's only a guess. That your rims may be 4.5" back space, the only reason I say this is the Cragar Soft 8's I ordered from the states said 5" back space on the net but infact arn't. They are 4.5" BS, the only saving grace that Summit Racing has is on there spec page (on the net) it also say's +12mm offset & 5" BS for the same rim

. Bit of a contradiction if you ask me but that's my problem now. So that could be the reason that your's rub more than some of our fellow KJer's. Oh, mine is also an 05 Sport.
When I ordered my Cragars only 4 made it out, the fith went on a round trip I think. That was back in late Aug, I'm told it will arrive this week (I hope). I'll measure my back space with a ruler when I get it to be sure I'm not wrong
I agree with Dje Ryu, you'd be better running those rims & tyre's with a lift (probably more so the rims).
