The Patriot with a Manual stacks up pretty favorabaly with the top sellers (2WD and 4WD). I do agree that the Liberty KK is really in a different class with the Solid Rear Axle/2 speed Transfercase. The only 'true" offroad vehicle in the bunch is the Liberty...better to compare with Nissan XTerra and like SUVs

You are right, but the KJ was only a bit better MPG wise than the KK and it was kicking a** in the sales charts and beating all above.
De-cuting the Liberty and making it bigger was not a smart move, if it sells like hotcakes you don't change the recipe.
The KK sales are slumping now and they are going to cut the third shift at the Toledo plant.
KJ dec 2006 11.979 units
KK dec 2007 9.941 units that's -17%
KJ nov 2006 7.360 units
KK nov 2007 6.813 units that's -7%
KJ oct 2006 11.004 units
KK oct 2007 6.486 units that's -41%
KJ sep 2006 12.367 units
KK sep 2007 6.830 units that's -43%
And remember in the fist years the KJ was selling over 15.000 units every month and 2006 (see above) was the slowest year for the KJ and still it was doing much bettter than the new model.
Jeep still thinks the skyslider roof is going to safe 2008 KK sales

, but workers at the factory admit the skyslider roof has problems and is leaking.
