Jeep Dawg, I definitely feel your pain because I'm also on my third set of CV's and I'm at 130,000 miles. I've owned Jeeps all my life and this is crazy.

Yea I rack on any where from 200 to 350 a day.

If the other side goes on my I am gonna go to napa or some place that sells the drive shaft and learn how to do it my self. Like some one here siad before.
If I can do a frankenlift, then I am sure a drive shaft is not much of a deal.
I just picked up a hyames manual lastnight. ENOUGH OF THE DEALER pulling their CRAP!
I am so sick of it. If it not one thing, it's another way of them figuring out a way to deny a warranty repair.

Here is an update to my problem.
I got the KJ back on tuesday afternoon. Lastnight I was pulling into my driveway and I heard the SAME (F-BOMB) as I did last week when the dealer said my front drive shaft went bad again.

So now that this has happend again, I am going to bring it back to the dealer to see what they say. I AM NOT PAYING FOR IT. less then 3 days after they installed it. I am sure they are going to find something but most likely say it had nothing to do what they did.

This is how it is going to go down>
Dealer talking to tech) he was in here 2 times for the same problem. First time he had mud so we voided warranty. last week he came in with the KJ lifted and with moab rims so we denyed claim for 12 month repair non OEM MOPAR. This time we have nothing on him and it looks like we (F-BOMB) up the install but we can blame it on the JEEPZILLA decal on the hood. it is in CAP letters and not lower case it has some extrea added weight.
Dealer calls Brian, and this is how it goes down>

We found the problem with you KJ this time. It is your CV and half shaft. Oh yea by the way you KJ has a sticker on the hood, we will have to deny repair warranty because of the extra added weight in the front end.
We measured each letter and estimated core weight value and you are over the .0000003/16 of a fraction so you have to pay to have your KJ repaired again....

I am sure that is what I will get from them this time.

I see where you have your old rims and tires for sale.

SWITCH them out BEFORE you go back to the dealership.

Put the old one on and see if they deny the claim then.
Or go to another stealership.

Better yet, learn how to do it yourself.

I was thinking about putting on the stock wheels just to see what they say.
The only reason why I am going back is because they did the job 3 days ago. If they say it is something else I am going to ask what and then tell them to put the jeep on the ground.
I will do the work my self.
I did my Frankenlift so I can do this.
I was looking at the tech section and saw a great posting by jeep4me. looks easy enough to do if it is the cv's and half shaft.

I had some hard knocking noise from my driver’s front drive shaft. The dealer called me this morning and said, you have the same problem that you had 9 months ago. CV's and drive shaft need to be replaced. I said ok cool it should be covered for the 1 year or 12k mile warranty repair. He said it should be but it is not. I asked him to explain why this is. He told me it is because of your lift and tires. He said the Moab rims were not ment for the KJ and the 245/75 either. I told him that I put them on Monday. He said well there you go that was your problem. I then said to him, your telling me that in 3 days I blowout my CV's and drive shaft on the same side? YES he said. Then I asked, well tell me this, how come my passenger’s side NEVER FAILED YET?
He had nothing to say about it.

The dealer just looks for way to deny any repair under warranty.

OH YEA, the last time I brought it in for that problem, I had just gotten done wheeling with some N-E KJ guys and the dealer said well you were 4wheeling and that caused the problem.

If the KJ sat for 6miillion years, they would say well it is because you did not drive it for long periods of time.

I think they messed up of it was a defective part. I really did not do much wheeling after they replaced the last time. So I do not know why it went bad again unless it was defective in the 1st place

Dawg, i'm having the exact same problem with my KJ and same experience w/the stealership. Long story short, i am taking the KJ to a Jeep specialty shop since the stealership won't honor the 1yr warranty. i had this shop install my Detroit TT. They had to machine the stock carrier bolts to finish the job, adding about 2.5hrs labor, and they still charged $300 less than the stealership's estimate! i will NEVER GO TO THE STEALERSHIP AGAIN! ! !

BTW, for all you Jeepers in the Fox Valley area (Chicago, IL) go to Lou's Jeep Sales & Service in Geneva! ! ! www.lousjeep.com

Here is a thought thought that no one said, WHEEL BEARING?????

I did say that the noise only happends at slow speeds starting and stopping and again at about 60mph I will hear a sound and feel a slight vibration.

Could it be my Wheel Bearing is shot or about ready to explode?

NICE Pete. Thanks alot man.

My symptom is more the Bearing.shtml link. The other links I have non of thoes issues. I am not leaning towards a wheel bearing.

I did some research on the internet and I also took out my Hayanes manual and was trouble shooting my problem.
Every thing that I am reading is pointing to front wheel bearing.

I even saw something on this site about wheelbearing. it did not say much but described EXACTLY what I am going though.

So I am actually thinking now, the dealer saw my past problem and assumed I had another front drive shaft problem and just replaced it and said your all set.
I think they did not even check for the complaint I reported. They may have done a repair that I did not even need.

OK well it is wensday night and I droped off the KJ back to the dealer. After talking to them They are going to look at it and see what is going on. They said they will not charge me. I said well thank you. after the problem came back 2 days after you so called fixed it.

I will keep ya updated on the out come.

I still say I have a wheel bearing problem and not a drive shaft problem.
If this is the case, what can I do? They charged me for a front drive shaft and labor and that did not fix the problem. if it is the bearing, can I make them either give me my money back and have them to correct the problem at their expense or discount me down for a wheel bearing repair and not a drive shaft?

Think I might have better luck with my CV by going here? My local mechanic replaced my driver's side a year ago, and she started clicking about 4 mos. ago. I haven't even been off-road in the past 12 mos., other than a couple of 2 tracks up north, that I've driven in my Honda Civic.

(Yes. I know Lous is about 3 hours north. And yes. I'm willing to drive there, if I thought they'd have a better chance of a more permanent cure)

The CV's from a dealer are brand new units that are very pricy, but they are brand new.The CV's you buy from parts stores(online to) are "rebuit" CV shafts,no way can they "build" new CV's for $60-$150 since the CV cups are hardened steel, they take apart bad ones and inspect the internal parts, replace anything if bad(most likely no replacing of stuff),clean them up and put them together with new grease and boots. Then they paint them to give that "new" look.JE Reel makes HD rebuilt version for the KJ with HD cages and better boots then found anywhere else but the cost a little more. And almost all of those places have a "core charge",means you need to pay more up front until you return your bad ones so they can rebuild them for the next guy.
