Since the weather started turning cooler here in Nor Cal, I have notices something unusual. When I first get inthe vehicle (03 Lim), and am backing up, I hear a weird groan when the brakes are applied. It does't do this when I drive forward, only reverse. Whe everything warms up, the noise goes away. I took it in and my mechanic looked at it because I thought I needed to replace the rear pads. he said it would be a waste of $$ and he wouldn't feel right replacing the brakes when it wasn't needed. Any suggestions.

Ed

not to hijack, but I'm in the same situation. I just replaced my pads 3000mi ago. oem replacement, and they're squeeking like they had 15k on them! I'm going to take the calipers off tomorrow to check whats going on. I'll repost my findings if no one else has it figured out by then.

This is one of the many things that come up this time of the year.

The majority of the time its just from condensation build-up from sitting over night.... 100% normal..

Although its never a bad idea to check out the pads, check and re-torque bolts, etc. Dont screw around with the brakes..

Also, if you hear a noise from the front suspension when going over bumps the sway bar bushings need to be replaced or lubed.. haha, another common thread this time of the year... And next spring A/C threads will be all over the place.
