You guys are wierd :? I rarely take mine over 65mph even in a 70 zone. When I'm in my jeep it's all about taking my time and enjoying the drive, at 70 I get horrid mpg and 5mph doesn't do squat between 65 and 75 on what time I get there

Jeepin..Ok man I live 45 mins from my school that I attend I leave at 7am and I'm there by 7:30 and I drive 70 the whole way unless I'm really wanting to get there in a hurry and the fastest then is 75..Now this is no lie I will drive to Altus which is 52 miles approx one way..so it's 104 round trip and I make this trip about 4 times a week. I will leave my house with a full tank of gas and reach Altus with still a full tank of gas.. Go to class from 8 am to 11am I then drive back and guess what still a full tank of gas! Now..that's without the wind..with the good old Oklahoma wind I will use a little under a 1/4 of a tank round trip. It costs me $30 for 4 days of school so approx thats 416 miles in a week I drive on average. So explain that one because I haven't figured out what is the deal with my MPG it seems that since I put in the K/N drop in filter and Flowmaster 40 with dual dumps before the back axle that I am getting better MPG could be my "IMAGINATION" :)

No idea dude

a majority of my drives that exclude city are 140mi one way's and usually I get there, do what i need to do, turn around and drive back with no city driving. I've done it several dozen times and set cruise at 65, 70 and 75 for both legs a few times a piece, then did it again with different brand of gas and came to the conclusion that I'm better off doin 65 no matter what brand or octane level between 87 and 89, even tried 93 and it just seemed to make it worse.

at 75 i was getting 14mpg on shell 13 on kanga/bp 70 averaged about 16mpg on either and 65 put it on the verge of 20

I think the differences for ours may be the upgrades you listed plus I've got the lightbar and obtrusive rack and a 4 foot whip and a transfer case to slosh around

It runs 70+ like a bat out of hell it just hits me in the wallet when I get where I'm going. I stopped testing the cruise at 75-78, I was burning over half a tank each leg which kinda sorta blows since 70% of the trip is a 70mph zone so I end up runnin with the rigs in the right lanes, due to the hills they rarely make it to 70 and yes I do get a little extra mpg during the day running with them do to less air resistance from time to time but over half of the trips doin 65 were at 2-3 AM and there was not a soul around and it produced the same benefits in mpg

I think it depends on the particular vehicle and road types

i'm a tad confused but i dont think it's all your fault, lets get everything straight

you were driving a jeep

took off o/d and floored it or something close to it

it downshifted to 2nd , rpms hit 6kish

he got infront of you and you lifted off the gas , turned OD back on and it didn't shift to 3rd or OD?

or are you saying, prior to lifting off the gas, with it floored it wasn't shifting to 3rd?

i typically stroke the pedal back to 3/4ths or so at 5500ish for the shift from 2nd to 3rd and then ease back in to about 4/5ths gradually until i'm past the point where it will downshift

the 3.7, atleast with the 3.73 has about 1k worth of fairly useless rpm prior to redline and at those speeds it may have been having trouble reaching the shiftpoint at 100% throttle

can you clarify any?

After he got infront of me I just let go of the gas and turn the O/D back on and everything was perfectly normal after that.

First off...You let a Ford Explorer beat you seriously?? Man you need to drop in a New Air Filter and get you a Flowmaster 40 with duals.. Hell I was keeping up with my Dad's 07 5.7L Dodge 1500 Hemi until I hit the speed limiter.. I eat mustangs and explorers for brunch now the fun part is trying to get a diesel powerstroke to race you and let them pass you at over 100mph and a Highway Patrol is right there watching him and gives him a ticket :-)r

I would have beat him but like the post says..."My jeep didnt shift" and thats why I lost. If it would have shifted I would have been fine and I would have smoked him

Now, I like my KJ. But although I can pretend it is fast because it is a stick, it is not fast. "Adequate" is a better word for something with 10 second 0-60 times and mid 17 second quarter miles.
