I've got a set of rims a friend gave me, only problem is they are a little beat up, plus the are another set of stock rims off the liberty.

I was wanting to black them, but wasn't sure if anyone had ever done this before, or had any suggestions.

I cleaned mine real well, scuffed them with sandpaper, then wiped them down with acetone. Let then dry and then hit them with some good flat black paint acouple times and then some clear coat.

i figured that was probably the best way to do it, but i wasn't sure if anyone else had tried it.

How is it holding up?

obv. it is easy to touch up.

what kind of clear did you use, if you remember?

Mine made it through PA salt season and we had a lot of ice this year so they used a ton of salt.

most powdercoating places should do them for about $40 ea. little bit of a pain to take off the tire and then remounted.

You have to post some pics when you are done, I have the factory steel rims and am thinking about powder coating them.

Yea but what sux is, it will be a while before I get all that stuff actually installed on the KJ.. My lil brother has all the cool tools and I have to wait for when he can help me out. his schedule is crazy right now. So I can do the roof rack with no probs, and still have to wait to purchase the new shoes for the wheels. the bumper and snork are gonna be an all weekend affair, as well as upgrading to Al's 4.5 UCA's and I need to do a clevis too. Then I need to find a welder that can modify my front bumper a tad so I can finally put my winch on. Oh and my Predator module will be here Friday.........
