We could petition Chrysler as well as whoever it is that handles recall investigations.

I agree...if you make a vehicle that bears the "JEEP" name you better dam well be sure that it will last like a Jeep, drive like a Jeep, be reliable like a Jeep, and be able to go places that ONLY JEEPS GO! If you ask me, Chrysler may be spendin too much time on those fancy schmansy Mercedes cars and not enough on our precious Jeep! A petition sounds good to me :D

Well, to be realistic.. Jeep isn't going to survive on the JEEP heritage alone. They are trying to market, if anything, take away some market share and get into the crossover (station wagon on roids) area. I would be a little less loud about the realiability issue as Jeeps rep isn't the best. I don't think we are in the top half but or KJ's are proving a somewhat reliable but not trouble prone vehicle can be built. Jeep made pickups, jeepsters and the like years ago. Were are they now? In some farmers barn covered with 3 decades of dirt/hay and cow dung. There is nothing wrong with DCX pushing the JEEP name/brand and using it's past rep for being "tough" off road, to sale a few of these to women (the target of the compass). If they felt there wasn't a indenity crises, they wouldn't have stuck those "trail rated" badges on'em to remind people they can handle abuse (but at a cost, now or later). Regardless what they produce. I can't see paying 30-plus grand for that gas guzzling commander to haul 7 people and the Liberty has become to most impractical vehicle I've ever owned. Don't get me wrong. It's VERY FUN to drive, rides great and has gone anywhere I've pointed it. But the size, gas and my driving needs just makes it something I don't see as having a place in the driveway. Other then a blown fuse/fusable link I just developed yesterday, it's been trouble free. Sorry to say, I'm spoiled and old. When I turn in the KJ, it will take an act of god (like giving me the same monthly payments or less for a CRD KJ) to keep me from getting another minivan (I already have one so I can live with 2). I already have a gas guzzler. It's a 14k lb motorhome that gets 11-13mpg. But at least I have room to haul the whole family (5 people) without them trying to kill each other

Makes you wonder if 2005 or 2006 use the same ball joint as used in the 2004?

If so why aren't they recalled???? :?:

Thats what im wondering? Did they change ball joints from 2002-2006? Why just recall 2004 jeeps if they used the same balljoints in all of them? Maybe they did change them b/c of the small recall they had with those balljoints in the 2002-2003 libbys, then they screwed up again by using crappy balljoints again. I just wish they would of went back to the serviceble ones. Thats what both our other jeeps have and theyve never needed balljoints.

So, is someone with a good articulate grasp of the english language going to write up a petition? There are more technically oriented people on here who are knowledgeable about the ball joint issue. Alot of people seem to be bit@hin about it, this gives us a possible outlet to do something. Do we do it or just continue to sit back and moan? Even if Chrysler doesn't act on it, at least we may get thier attention and /or the proper NHTSA attention this deserves.
I propose that someone write one, submit it to this site and we can read/revise it until we are ready to post it on the petition page.

If it only took seven complaints from actual problems to begin the investigation, then 100+ signatures on a petition should get things going even further.

Not 7 complaints...7 FAILURES. This doesn't include the countless people that have replaced their ball joints before they totally failed. There is a much bigger problem than what this investigation would lead one to believe.

Exactly my point. ALOT of people on here have had to replace ball joints. Who knows how many of those would have led to failure. We need to let NHTSA and Chrysler know how many people are affected by this.

Here here...this whole thing is so ridiculous, but I already posted before my feelings about building a cheap vehicle with the Jeep name

05-06 probably haven't been on the road long enough to start reporting problems.
