Please explain the odometer being low. If that's the case then on my road trip I got over 40 mpg as I was calculating 38 as it was.

Do you have a GPS? You can correlate you odometer to that or to highway mile markers. Most people find theirs reads a little low. I find 10% hard to believe. Both of my CRDs are only 1-2% low, as measured over a 200 mile interstate leg.

I found 10% high too untill I checked it with my GPS :D More then a few have verified the 10% figure
I find the claimed mileage in the high 30's "hard to believe" too but don't dismiss them as not possible :?

Just made my first road trip with the gde tune. 1st leg 267 miles all Interstate was running 70MPH with AC and I got 24.83 MPG Last 20 miles was stop and go traffic. Return trip 325 miles was all interstate 80 MPH with last 20 miles city driving and I got 21.67 MPG. I was really hoping for better results. I'll keep checking with each tank. Does anyone know of a good high velocity fan to replace the stock auxillary fan?

It varied quite a bit. This jeep has been F37'd and was my Wifes daily ride until about 2 months ago. She got a new car and I took the Jeep so I wasn't real sure what the MPG where until I started driving it in May. It seemed to average getting around 24-26 MPG highway and 20-22 MPG city. Then about a month ago I changed tires to the Goodyear Fortera SA 245 70r 16. It seemed that the MPG dropped a bit after the new, wider tires but I was in denial and didn't want to believe my calculations. Besides I tow a travel trailer 5K lbs, and I thought the wider tires would be a plus for towing and I can accept a slightly lower MPG for better safety and stability. I have a hard time driving under 70 MPH on the interstate which is probably what I'd have to do to get close to 30 MPG.

If you want good mileage fold in your mirrors and set the cruise at 60 MPG and leave it alone!

That's how I got 38MPG. Diesels are very RPM specific. The faster you go the mileage goes south FAST!

sentry : more mileage = less skinny pedal   I hit 33 mpg on first full tank. Albeit with stocker skinny tires and cruise set a lot.

Even before the tires, that seems unusually low. Did you clean your MAP?

The only other real surefire way to improve mpg mod wise is to remove your stock muffler and replace it with either a piece of 2.5" pipe or a straight thru muffler (like a Magnaflow).

Wider tires will always lower your mileage, guaranteed. More traction = lower mpg.

And, in response to CRD Joe's comment, set cruise at 60 on flats (if you can stand to go that slow :)) and DON'T fold in your mirrors. You might get 37, instead of 38, but you won't have to worry about major fines for making yourself a safety hazard on the highway. Better yet, you won't have to worry about making yourself a safety hazard on the highway.

My odo is 10 % off, but I run 245/75/16 tires. Your mileage may vary... :D

I just cleaned my MAF today so maybe that will help. As far as the odometer reading 10% off. I checked that also during my trip against my GPS. The Jeep ODO is off by 4%. That's 4 miles less than the actuall GPS for every 100 miles. I'm also looking for a high velocity auxillary fan to replace the stock. Any suggestions?

You guys freaking out about folding in your side mirrors must be driving with neck braces on. Can't you just turn your head a little? I posted about doing that experiment probably two years ago and there was no outcry at that time. Do it at your own risk.

I'm sorry, but any item that is installed on your vehicle for your own safety and the safety of OTHERS should never be tampered with or removed. Period.

I'm not freaking out, I don't wear a neck brace. You bought a Jeep. You bought a particularly fuel efficient Jeep. Congratulations. If you want better mileage than what you can get from a few legal and safe modifications, buy a DIFFERENT VEHICLE. I don't care how long you've been driving or how good your driving record is, no driving aids should ever be tampered with. Ever.

Actually, on second thought, go on ahead and turn off your vehicle while you're driving downhill so you can get those extra 10 miles. Just do it when nobody else is around so when you kill yourself you're the only one who gets hurt. Endangering my life or life of another driver so you can get an extra .5mpg is inexcusable.

UFO,

you need to get the new sliders for your HANS. It gives almost full range of motion.

My side view mirrors help me maintain situational awareness. I don't believe it's as safe to run with them disabled. That's just my opinion.

I guess that's where opinions differ. You look at side mirrors as a safety accessory, and others look at them as a comfort/convenience accessory. God forbid I should have to turn my head. You have to do it to check your blind spots anyway.
