this was our ride for 4 days while on the Safari, Jessica and I and two of the owners of Superb Tours and Safaris

Saw a bunch of these , I want 4 of them :wink:

Behind us is the Ngorongoro Crater, the largest unflooded and unbroken caldern in the world, where many of thses pictures were taken

My wife never did see what I saw in this picture....do you? Look closely at the top of two mountain ranges in the distance..... :shock:

Boob Mountains was cool, we were riding on a bus, going 150 Miles per hour ( felt like it :shock:

) heading for Dodoma and I look over and see those and took the shot, showed it to Jessica and she didn't see it at first, then her comment" Only you would see *ipples in that picture!"

We later saw a Male Elephant that was doing his thing and only thing Jessica could say was "OH MY Gawd Thats HUGE!"

VoodooMann not sure what the Maasai call them but its just a club that they carry, I have one of the ones pictured. The two guys with the leather jackets are two of the owners of the Safari Company.

501 , real hard to come back here, even though some things are harder to do over there, plus not being able to completely understand Swahili yet, I still felt more at home there than here. Can not wait to return.

Awesome pics Tom,especially the one of the orangy sun(set or rise?).
The one with the grey headed kingfisher;is he in an acacia tree?
I tried to grow acacia's that I had ordered online,as a natural barbed wire,but they struggled then died.
don't know if we have too much water or soil differences.
I was told the thorns can penetrate a tire,is this true?

all depends on where you are as far as temps go, Moshi near Mount Kilimanjaro was 60/65,( thats where they grow lots of coffee and bananas and where her parents live) little more humid and more rain, Dar-es-Salaam is along the coast and much hotter, 80s and humidity is higher , Dodoma was like being in New Mexico/ AZ but nice breeze and in the 70s low 80s and no humidity to speak of.
Dodoma is where she lives and teaches at, and where we bought more land at.
Tanzania is almost like taking the U.S. and shrinking it down in size ( think an area smaller than Alaska) but it has all the different types of areas that the U.S. doesif that makes sense

I bet it was hard to come back. How much longer do we have you here in the States before you retire and head over there for good?

I can retire (with full retirement) in 2014, at age 60, Jessica has to be over there until 2011/early 2012, then 2 years here to get most of her PhD done, so it should all work out .....I think :wink:

Nice pics, Central and East Africa is beautiful. Never been to Tanzania, but I got to Mombasa Kenya and Harare Zimbabwe when I was in the Air Force. I want to go back and see Lake Victoria in Kenya which I've only seen from the air and Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe.

Where you going to build your hotel?

My wife was born in Mwanza right on the southern part of Lake Victoria. They then moved to Moshi area when she was three or so. There are several places I want to go see in East Africa, it is beautiful over there for sure. What amazes me is that you drive from say almost rainforest to desert in two hours time.
We bought land in Dodoma this time ( capitol of Tanzania now) There are some older type hotels but nothing like I want with a resturant etc. They also need a large room for wedding parties. There when you marry there are several hundred people who attend and currently there is no where in Dodoma for that, all have to travel for 5 to 6 hours to have a place. Lots of things to do to make money now, just getting it all together to make it happen now. :wink:
