Boiler, let me know when you get the new Aluminum or Garolite gas skid out. I may be replacing my Mopar one if the price is right.

I look forward to seing your entire line actually. Too bad I won't be able to really use anything but the skid. Well, maybe one of those super sexy aluminum roof racks.

For the record, I know quite a few guys running aluminum gas skids and they put their TJs through way worse trails than anyone on here does with their KJ.

Keep me updated Boiler.

Hmm, I should clarify. I won't be doing a plastic gas tank skid...

Our gas tank skid is pretty much like the rest, just stronger and lighter. It will be offered in aluminum ONLY.

The other skids have the removable flat plates and can be basically any material.

No worries, I probably misread. Still really interested in the aluminum gas skid.

I have an 05 CRD. Once back in work(and with the money reserves built up a bit) I'd be interested in the fuel tank skid, and the rear bumper when it comes out - especially if it has recovery points like the Rocklizard (which is also on my list :) ) I have the Skid Row underbody skids (currently in my shed waiting to be fitted) that I bought just before I became unemployed!

I look forward to seeing your website when its up and running :D

Well, I'm planning on having the belly skid + custom exhaust & gas tank skids done and on my jeep in about 1-2 weeks. I'm hoping to be able to fit them to any KJ (except maybe CRDs) within a month. The rocker guard will probably follow 2-3 weeks behind that schedule, and the transmission skid another couple weeks behind that.

Basically I want to have the full prototype set done by the end of September, and hopefully some pieces ready for sale before then. I expect to be able to produce all of it for KJ's sometime in October.

Any CRD Folk in Indiana, Illinois, Ohio, Michigan, or Kentucky want to meet up for a day? That would greatly increase the chance of CRD stuff getting done quickly.

As far as I can tell, active CRD owners are thriving on LOST and a nice chunk of the market.

From the cartoon view, that gas tank skid looks like a real P.O.S.

Well Friday we welded up a steel (cheap) verson of our gas tank skid to see how it fit the tank, cleared the exhaust, differential, etc. It was perfect. I need to remove a small corner of it to clear my tow hook.

Today I went to the meet and greet and inspected some hitches. I think we're going to have trouble with them. So after I type this I'm going to work on clearing up some room...

I got my exhaust put on Friday, but we were so late working on the gas tank skid that I really just checked it out briefly. It looks like it will clear my rear skid, but it's still tight in a couple spots. I'll probably tweak it some.

Today at the M&G I discovered something else I don't like. I thought the 02/03 kjs had a resonator in front of the muffler, and 2 small cats up near the manifold. I was told tonight that what I thought was a resonator turns out to be a third cat? Someone please dispute this for me, it will make my life much easier if it is a resonator and I can remove it when installing the custom exhaust...

It's not a resonator,it is a cat.

Thanks. Was it just the 02 that had this setup? Do all 03+ have the 2 big cats up front and just the muffler past the last crossmember?

I'm also wondering what CRD's have for exhaust, if different.

I really like the idea of a Garolite Belly skid, that stuff is mighty strong!

I'm a big fan of the G-10 material, it is great stuff, light too, but isn't the G5/G9 stuff stronger, while being only fractionally more expensive?

I'm not sure how well the garolite would hold up to being scraped along rocks or dropped/bashed into anything too hard though...

G10-FR4 is the most available in the size needed, and it seems to be about half as expensive and stronger than G9. I didn't find any hard numbers on G5.

I'm convinced, based on the property data sheets, that this will be quite awesome on rocks.

any idea on cost for a skid made from G10, and (if you have them) comparisons for weight between aluminum (1/4"), steel (1/4"), and G10 (what thickness were you planning on using, 1/4"?)

I not really close to having a skid cost yet. I'm guessing the aluminum one will land somewhere between $275 and $425, but I really am not sure yet. All depends how long it takes to make it and how low I can get my suppliers.

As far as weight, while this is probably off by at least 5%, the proportions between the materials is correct:

Garolite: 25 lbs
Aluminum: 35 lbs
1/4 Steel: 95 lbs
3/16 Steel: 70 lbs. I figured I'd go 3/16 on the steel, as it is supported pretty well and heavy as H-E-doublehockeysticks.

Remember, the skid I'm talking about replaces the transfer case skid, and runs from the TC crossmember back to the rear shackles for the suspension arms. It covers the majority of the driveshaft, and requires custom exhaust work / custom exhaust system. We are going to offer a top quality muffler / stainless tucked exhaust at a pretty good price. It won't be mandrel bent, but that can be arranged for more because we'll have to send it out for bending.

We're also planning a similar transmission skid and rock rails that follow the same theme.

So your SP's are going to be larger and cover more area than the Skid Row jobs?

Yes. We're designing these to give first rate protection to vital parts, but beyond that we're covering holes and uneven areas so that you don't go up on a rock and have it get lodged in your undercarriage.

What I've been calling a belly skid is actually and extended transfer case skid, and it encloses the whole middle rear area like JJKJ's belly skid, though its built a lot different and goes to the stock rear suspension arm shackles.

Here is JJ's. He and I are in no way affilliated. I hope he doesn't mind...
http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a45/Co ... Belly1.jpg

Now imagine if his rock sliders had a similar plate, as well as the transmission. That's what we're going for. One big smooth underside. There will probably be a few holes for things though.
