Well, here are a few pictures of the new gas tank skid. It looks pretty filthy, it needs a little clean up. Greasy hands and bolts and water make bare aluminum look pretty rank. I'm planning on polishing it and clear coating it this week when I get a 4 hour chunk of time. I figured I'd get some before pics up as well as try to stop being a tease...
Some notes about the design and construction:
-All parts are CNC waterjet cut and CNC formed
-All Weld Joints are made on both sides
-1/4" aluminum was used throughout
-The rear wall is connected to the sides higher than other skids. The corner triangles allow us to fit precisely between the tank and towhitches. There is about 1/4" gap between both our skid and the tank, and our skid and the hitch. This gives us a sizable advantage over other skids, as we can absorb a higher rear collision due to having more connected material.
-The front wall is shorter but still very beefy and protected by the rear axle.
-Gas tank skids will come bare unless additional arrangements are made. We can have them powdercoated, rattle can primed / painted black, polished and clearcoated etc, for an additional cost that is still to be determined.
-Price is still TBD. I haven't gotten non-prototype costing back from my waterjet guy yet. I should have something this week. They'll likely be somewhere in the $300 ballpark.
-They weigh 32 lbs and were designed to be the strongest gas tank skid available.
