We planned on finishing the belly skid tonight but after about 5 hours of work we still have about 5 more to go. I think I may have to abandon the seperate frame and plate idea, which allowed us to use plastic, steel, or aluminum plate. It is just really complicated to fabricate. I'm going to have to make some changes either way.

Going out of town for the weekend in the morning, so I'll be unreachable for a couple days. I'll be back on this Sunday night....

Had a great day yesterday. Took my skid up to IL and fit it to yellowcoyote's 18.5 gal tank with mopar hitch and it cleared everywhere as expected. Looks like it is ready to go. You can see it in the foreground of this picture. Looks like quite the mess of tools and parts...

I'll be posting a new thread with better pictures Asap.

Well, here are a few pictures of the new gas tank skid. It looks pretty filthy, it needs a little clean up. Greasy hands and bolts and water make bare aluminum look pretty rank. I'm planning on polishing it and clear coating it this week when I get a 4 hour chunk of time. I figured I'd get some before pics up as well as try to stop being a tease...

Some notes about the design and construction:
-All parts are CNC waterjet cut and CNC formed
-All Weld Joints are made on both sides
-1/4" aluminum was used throughout
-The rear wall is connected to the sides higher than other skids. The corner triangles allow us to fit precisely between the tank and towhitches. There is about 1/4" gap between both our skid and the tank, and our skid and the hitch. This gives us a sizable advantage over other skids, as we can absorb a higher rear collision due to having more connected material.
-The front wall is shorter but still very beefy and protected by the rear axle.
-Gas tank skids will come bare unless additional arrangements are made. We can have them powdercoated, rattle can primed / painted black, polished and clearcoated etc, for an additional cost that is still to be determined.
-Price is still TBD. I haven't gotten non-prototype costing back from my waterjet guy yet. I should have something this week. They'll likely be somewhere in the $300 ballpark.
-They weigh 32 lbs and were designed to be the strongest gas tank skid available.

They need a hole or 2 for drainage of water. Other that that, it looks dang nice. How about a shipping quote to 89521...

Yeah we planned on drilling some but just kept forgetting too. I dumped 1/2" of water out of it when I took it off at the M&G. We already added some in the waterjet files. I'm going to put four 1/2" diameter half circles, one in each corner of each endplate.

I'll get a box and hit up UPS for shipping costs this week.

Also, something cool you can show potential customers would be a skid testing video, or a series of before, during and after pics. Mount up a skid on your or someone else's jeep, go out with camera in hand and record/snap you skidding across a rock, boulder or something large and hard, testing that skid out. That would give people an idea of how the skid will perform in real life situations. Just an idea.

Drain holes or bolt holes?

We have the entire thing cut on the water jet so its easy to add or change things, just give it a new path.

I'm not sure. Probably find some things to bump it into and ride it up onto relatively soon.

Free install if you come to Muncie (90 mins from you prob). Or wait til I bump into you again...

Really though this is so easy to install. I took mine on and off twice by myself with one knee. Doing it with a heavy hitch takes a few more hands or ingenuity.
