There is no proven connection between that girl in the video and any vaccine. More recent news stories talk about this internet hysteria passed on by the overly excitable among us. I'll look elsewhere than "Youtube" for my news, thanks.
As mentioned above, people do not get the flu from a flu
shot. As the yearly shots are made up from a SWAG as to what of the dozen or so strains will hit the U.S. in a season, it is likely that some of us are eventually exposed to strains that we have not been vaccinated against, especially with far more of us exposed to international travel and goods than ever before. Plus, as the shot causes your body to mimic the flu, many people confuse their bodies reaction to the mimiced flu (body aches/fever/etc) with the flu. The flu doesn't give you a fever, your body's defenses kicking in causes that.
Antibiotic medications and antibacterial agents for washing your hands do NOTHING to fight influenza. Influenza is a VIRUS not a bacteria. The overuse of anti-bac is probably harming our natural ability to fight bacterial infections, not helping it. Tom's "eating dirt" metaphor is a perfect example. And the use of antbiotics for viruses is not only a waste of time & money, but is probably lowering that "eating dirt" effect even more.
How many of us go to the Dr. and are told we have the flu, yet no blood test is done with them calling you back 3 days later as the test takes 48 hrs to grow the culture? No, we say we have the flu because Ol' Doc said we did or we think we did becuase we just "know we have the flu" when in fact less than 20% of "flu" claims are proven by an actual test. A lot of "flu" isn't "flu."
According to the CDC, an average of 36,000 Americans die of the flu each year (
http://www.cdc.gov/flu/about/disease/us ... deaths.htm ). Some bring up the point that 36,000 is a statistically low number. I don't care about world-wide numbers as I only live here and the fact is that millions here get the flu and
do not die. That leads to a huge hit on lost productivity for both companies lost wages/time for the patient. Perhaps those of us who do not work can afford to hole up for a week at a time, but those of us in the work force cannot do so in most cases. When you expand that number out to those who may miss work not because they have the flu, but their childern do and work must be missed to care for them the number grows rapidly to massive levels.
My wife and kids all have H1N1 as confirmed by blood test. Do I fear their dying? Not really. But I know my wife is missing work, my kids are missing school, I am cutting back on work, I am spending money on "comfort measures," and the symptoms are miserable to watch. I cannot hide in my room and ignore it. Had vaccinations been available in my county ( they still are not) at least my kids would probably have been spared this.
