New Bumper!

so did you bolt all the way through the top, or did you just have them tap the holes to the thread of the bolts you wanted to use?

All the way through. It takes some time to bolt everything up, but its a pretty strong connection.

So how did you guys mount the bumper to the jeep? Custom brackets, any welding? I woudl like to try this, is it just a matter of drililng a few holes and buying some hardware?

What is did was completely cut off any of the mounting hardware that was on the bumper. I did not use the 4 presssed bolts on the TJ bumper because for mine it did not seem to work, and I think I got a better fit not using them. I flipped the bumper upside down and used the braket that has a hole drilled in it to recieve a bolt and used that as my top mounting point. I then use 2" flat steel and used that as the bottom mouting bracket. Bolting it to the stock tow hook point. The only thing I welded were the hitches to the subframe. I did not weld the bumper, but I could have welded the mounting bracket onto the bumper but didn't. For mine there was alot of cutting involved and working around things on my jeep I wanted to keep. One of those was the Renny lights infront of the grill. I had to make so cuts to work around the light mounting brackets. If you do this just take your time and search the fabrication part of the forum. That is what got me started. I noticed that I could not follow how other people did theres verbatum, but it did give me some references If you have any other questions PM me.

basically you remove the front fascia, grill, crush cups, etc. from the heep.

bend the brackets for the TJ bumper to match the countour of the KJ unibody/bumper area. remove the factory studs, and Drill holes for the bolts.

assemble.

Voodooman and yodejt02, you both should post some good shots of your bumpers in the bumper thread. Give an explanation of how it mounts and how you did it all on there too if you guys would. :wink:

All my pics I took of the front are gone. My harddrive crashed so I only have the ones I posted from my phone. BUT I will be posting my rear bumper work when I get out of the snow and into a proper garage in two weeks.

how come your skid bows outward ? Just curious. I did mine back 4 years ago and made it curve inward so you could pull right up to rocks with nothing sticking down in the way
