My brother did the Jeep switch and now owns a KK (2008) and a JK (2009).
He is happy and has run into the usual Jeep new vehicle disappointments like less than expected mileage and less than expected power ( especially the 3.8 ). I explained things to him and to not be swayed away from the Jeep brand as their utility value and 4WD function far outweigh the disadvantages especially when it comes to mods time.
His major problem is the way he is being handled when it comes to warranty.
Since he has gassers all powertrain concerns are lifetime covered and the dealer (in his home town of San Antonio, Tx) specifically state that certain customer paid for procedures must be performed like "intake and fuel injector cleaning", a costly $299 job. The service manager gets into statements like " well we can't keep the lifetime coverage if you won't be concerned for clean injectors".
Since my KJ is diesel and I am on my own I really do not know what to tell him- I feel he needs to tell these guys to shove it and go elsewhere for warranty.
So KK owners: Do you pay for expensive injector cleaning or anything else to keep your Lifetime?? What do I tell my brother?

Well since Fiat is in control now and they are really tightening the noose about what is covered under warranty I would believe it.He needs to read all the fine print for the warranty and follow it,they can deny it and they may likely do that since it's taking a chance that Fiat will not allow the reimbursement for that job that was covered under warranty but was not a valid warranty claim.

we didn't get the lifetime warranty in Canada so I can't really comment too much... but I will comment a little.

The dealership has something to bait you with and scare you into performing maintenance according to their schedules.

I would call and ask Chrysler customer care (not the dealer) why this injector flush would be mandatory for keeping a lifetime powertrain warranty? What does it have to do with your diffs, t/case or for that matter your water pump? Maybe its there in the fine print and if it is then thems the rules.

Remember though, checking mileage and keeping a clean air filter are not warranty concerns, and your brother has to keep up on that stuff, as well as any other maintenance in the book... not the dealers book- Jeeps book. Lof's, Diff and transmission services etc... important stuff.

At our dealership- the major injector service is $165 ($265 for diesels) and I can't imagine another brand doing or costing more. We print our own maintenance schedule book and expect you to follow it... but if you have the original one and you follow the it, we can't exactly argue.

I am with bestboy.

Call the factory. Then get what ever they say in writting and take it the dealer.

Then take it to your Local News station and see if they can run a story on how this dealer likes to lie about warranty stuff.

The life time warranty was for item in oil and fluids all the time.
So that tells me that this is very questionable.

But he needs the Factory tell him what the rules are.

I say if it is in the book that came with the jeep, then he has to do it.
If jeep never said this serves needs to be done, the dealer is lieing..
