If you check your history, you will find that the two catchphrases - being associated with their respective teams - originated nearly concurrently, both becoming a part of the common parlance for each team's fan base in or around the early 80's. HOWEVER, the term "Who dat" goes back much further (nearly 100 years further, and originating in - of all places - NEW ORLEANS!) than "Who dey", so history is on the Saints' side.

As far as a cult festival, seriously, it's easy for an outsider to see it that way. The prevalent debauchery is used as a tourist draw, much like Las Vegas. But there is actual meaning behind the spectacle, some participants observe it and some use it simply as an excuse for excess. I guess it depends on your perspective and familiarity with the culture behind the facade. (A French word, you know - see my writeup on "etymology" earlier in this post)

That is not lagniappe, that is immaturity. A lot of people died, real people. It doesn't matter what color they were, or whether they were criminals, they are DEAD. Finis, (Latin, not French) with no hope of making a change in their life or circumstances because they are gone. Who knows what future scientists, doctors, etc., may have died? Criminals, future criminals, immoral and destitute people, etc. may have died, but the point remains that because of that, they did not have an opportunity to repent of their ways and make a change. In Ohio it may have been a media blitz that you got tired of hearing about, but it really happened. If you had family here, I doubt that you would make that statement.

And, because of that statement, this banter (meant to be playful) is now over on my part. If you cannot recognize this for what it is, and just participate in light "trash talk" about football without crossing the line into a personal attack like that, then that is your loss. That's not how I do business.

No one bothered to mention LSU's standings this year, even its supporters... For sentimental reasons I am not an OSU fan but an OU fan. No, football is not a priority at OU. It is similar to New Orleans in that manner.

I apologize for getting under any thin skin. I did believe this was all tongue in cheek and not at all of the tone about Cutler. But I will wish the Saints as a team well should they win Sunday. But only if they win Sunday.

The real story here seems to be a consensus on the Colts/Jets game.

I'm interested to see how the Gators fare this coming season. A lot would write them off since Tebow and Spikes are leaving, and Meyer's status is in flux, but I expect the Gators to be back in form and win the East. I think they're biggest challenge will be South Carolina. Brooks retired at Kentucky, Tennessee is in shambles, Vaderbilt is. . . well, Vanderbilt. Georgia may be a tough test, but they're somewhat of an unknown going into this season. LSU has to visit the swamp in 2010, here's to hoping for a great game and an LSU win. . .

I will be the first to admit that Ohio, as a state, has more of a football tradition than Louisiana. However, that doesn't take away from my enjoyment of LSU beating Ohio State handily for the 2007 BCS championship. . .

Hopefully, after February 7th, I can come back and say, Bengals 0 for 2 in Super Bowl appearances, Saints 1 for 1! I think that would be a. . . Louisiana WINNER!

Talking trash is part of being a football fan. Makes it more fun. I was at the LSU/ Arkansas game this past season, which LSU won in OT on an Arkansas missed field goal. I bought the tickets sight unseen from LSU's website, and they turned out to be in Arkansas's visitor's seats. All game long, I was surrounded by Razorback fans hollering "Pig Suey," etc. When I can turn around and yell "Tiger Bait!" at them all night long, then walk down the same concourse after the game with the same people talking about how good of a game it was - THAT is football, my friend. That is the best experience short of being on the field and playing to win the game. If I (somehow, short of serious $$$) manage to get tickets to the Minnesota/ New Orleans NFC Championship game, I'll be there decked out in Black and Gold, hollering "WHO DAT!!" at every person I see in purple. I'm hoping for a great game, with a New Orleans win. Who in their right mind wants to see Brad Childress's bald head holding up the Lombardi trophy? Only a Vikings fan would want to see that.

Here's to a great game Sunday, and a Saints win!! WHO DAT!!!!

Gators still look good, even without Tebow and Spikes. As long as we have a qb that can throw where the ball needs to go then we will be good. If the new qb can run the ball like Tebow can, we'll be looking even better.

Florida's QB-in-waiting (I can't remember his name RATM) looked good in the Kentucky game after Tebow's concussion. I think he will be more of a pocket passer and less of a runner though. I am relatively confident they will win the East, I just hope they don't face Bama again in the Championship game. . . I hope the face THE TIGERS!

Florida will fall back to mediocrity like FSU and Miami did for a few years. Alabama will stay for another year or two and fumble down again. Georgia could be up top, SC...well, maybe. Vols are destroyed and you won't see them for at least 4-5 years. Kentucky is always mediocre. Vandy is as said, Vandy. One good year and back to the cellar. LSU...hard to say...close to top but not taking it all.

Nebraska is back, the Pac-10 is up for grabs, Big Ten still has Iowa, OSU, Penn State. Wisconsin is always near the top. Michigan has a couple more years before I see them as a Big Ten Champ threat.

Things will cahnge once the Big Ten has 12 teams and splits with the stupid divisions and conference championships. The stupidest thing I have ever seen in my life....well, close to the stupidest.

When teams don't play all of the teams in their conference, what is the point of having a conference? It is stupid! Then you have the two div champs, playing each other even though they may have played each other already yet never played all of the teams in their conference. You also get a division that has a losing record playing in the conference championship. Stupid!
