I follow you there. But the problem a lot of us are having isn't even when trying to top off the tank. When we're filling our tanks fuel reaches the point where it shuts off the pump and then a couple of cups of fuel bubble out of the tank.
I hear you. I have seen this before in some vehicles. It used to pi$$ me off when I worked at a gas station one summer many years ago. I ended up having to clean it up a lot.
I know there are several hoses connected to gas tanks and the purpose of some of them is to prevent the problem you are talking about. I didn't know there were also valves. It seems like after more than a hundred years of building cars all of the manufacturers would have this problem solved by now but I think their are design problems with at least some vehicles. I hope your's is fixable and it is something as simple as a clogged or kinked air line. I think my TJ's problem, while in the other direction, is a design problem and is not fixable. It has been that way for 11 years. I used to have a truck that would often cause the pump to shut off when it was only 3/4 full. It didn't spew out gas like you are talking about though.
Anyway, I understand the problem you are talking about. Sorry my original post didn't seem to be on point. I should have been more clear.
