Does the KJ have a build sticker somewhere on it that tells you gear ratios etc. My old Dakota used to have one in the glove box but I can't find anything on the KJ.

Go to the dealership and have them print you off a build sheet.

This is what I want to confirm but I was hoping to save myself the time of jacking up the rear end to find out. I have a sneaking suspicion that it might actually be the 4.10's in my KJ.

I mentioned in an earlier thread about my speedo being off by ~5 mph compared to my GPS. The dealer reported at the time that everything was ok. I checked the speedo again against my parents vehicles as well as those new civics with the LCD speedo displays and am still off by the ~5 mph so I took it back to the dealer and had them do a recalibration but still no change.

This has now forced me to do some investigation and when I was calculating out speed using gear ratios based off information on the internet I found that the difference between the 3.73 gear set and the 4.10 gear set at highway speeds is spot on what I am seeing.

225/75/16 /0.690 4th gear / 3.73 diff gear = 67.71 mph @ 2000 rpm (what the speedo is reporting)
225/75/16 /0.690 4th gear / 4.10 diff gear = 61.60 mph @ 2000 rpm (what the gps etc. is reporting)

That all being said, my thoughts are that the mechanic at the dealer just plugged in that the diff gear was a 3.73 when he was doing the recalibration because the Liberty comes with the 3.73 gears from factory but at some point 4.10's were installed (maybe at factory???)

So that is why I was hoping that somewhere there is a build sticker that would say what gear set is/should be in my KJ. If not then I will just have to jack up the rear end see what I find.

If I'm not mistaken, only 4cyl KJs came with 4.10's
And I believe import models too.

If it came factory with 4:10's than it would be calibrated for them. If someone switched them afterwards than your speedo would be off. Put bigger tires on it and It will be fine

X3 - bigger tires sounds good. Hey if you are wrong about the gears, then you will have a reason to re gear for your bigger tires :D Of course, then a lift would be a good idea... and so it goes... it never ends :JEEPIN:

I have the same situation with my 07, running the same size tires, I've checked against my GPS as well. My lib's build sheet shows mine having the 3.73's.

Yeah, and 3.73's were the only gears available in 2007.

Isn't that the truth :SOMBRERO:

Looks like I will just have to jack up the KJ when I have a bit of free time and start counting.
