I just changed mine to the Autolite Platinums and I'm having great results. I had crap in there before (installed by Strouss Discount Auto) and this time I did it on my own. I also changed the PCV valve, air filter, and the oil (Mobil 1.) I'm getting around 1.3 to 1.5 mpg better than before (after only 3 tanks.)

I was looking at the NGK 7100 Gp or something, on Autozone website at 2.99/piece. Has anyone tried this plug with any results yet? I'm at 70,000 and pretty sure I have stock plugs, but still getting 20mpg highway.

Changed out what I'm assuming were the factory plugs, at 80K

I was getting 12mpg today, and it stuttered a little at a red light, so I immediately pulled in to autozone to get new plugs.

autolite platinum.

I used all my gas money for plugs. It is better to have to possibly walk to work, than to have my car break down because my plugs are toast.

the guy at autozone took one look at the old plug I pulled to show him before I bought new ones, and he said, "This spark plug came out of That vehicle... And It was still running?

He about had a seizure when I told him how often we have to change our spark plugs :ROTFL:

My engine feels so much peppier now.

And it isn't just seat of the pants difference. I actually peeled out of the parking lot on accident.

It idles more evenly and has better throttle response too, If I give a quick rev while in neutral/park it doesn't hesitate at all. If i tap the gas while rolling in drive it jumps like a caged tiger waiting to escape, where before it felt like it had the reflexes of an aging panda. :JEEPIN: :JEEPIN:

VoodooMann, the cost of plugs will probably pay for themselves in less than a month in fuel savings.

Well, I haven't found anyone with info on the NGK 7100 but my local Autozone has got a set so I'm planning on picking them up today and installing them. I'll let you know if I see a difference. I am at 70,000 miles, and like Voodoo, I believe I am still on original plugs (in-laws bought the Libby new), so I will let everyone know how they work out. $2.99 a plug is not bad, and I've always had good luck with NGKs. I'm going to do the PCV for the first time too.

Does it matter where / what you get for pcv valve? Are there better or worse ones, or should I just go to the nearest store and get whatever they have?

Personally I don't think the brand of the PCV matters all that much.

I would buy one from the dealer. I’ve been told by a few mechanics that that aftermarket PCV valves don’t always have the best fit or best quality.

didn't have a problem with the pcv that comes in the orange package commonly found on the backwall at autozone/advance

if it's the plastic twist in, i'd feel comfortable with the standard autozone stuff

if it's the metal nut style one like what's on the newer 3.7's on the back of the head, i'd probably lean towards a dealer, but would more than likely go to autozone and see what theirs looked like and the price first

Its a lil off the jeep side of things, but i bought a set of E3's for my MK4 Jetta back when they were still really new on the market and they worked GREAT (sarcasm), for about 3K miles. It started missing and then throwing codes. A new set of factory NGKs fixed that problem, traded the jetta in with the NGK's still running great after at least 50K miles. No more but OEM for me. just my personal :2cents:

It's been a bit since this thread was posted, so how have the NGK Iridiums performed? Are they worth the money?

Good on ya, Voodooman. You really can't go wrong with a plug change. I had the dealer doing my service up through the 70,000 mile warranty period, and I'm pretty sure they never changed the plugs. I took one out after my last service and the electrode on the NGK was just a little nub.

Switched to Bosch Platinum Plus' and had an immediate performance gain and smoother running engine.

I'm not a fanboy when it comes to plugs, but I do stay away from the gimmicky stuff like "Super A+ Tri-Circular-Splosion-Multi-Electrodes-in-your-pants" plugs.

I'll probably do the Autolite platinums next time around. But as many posters here suggest, NGK coppers are probably just as good.

Ask me in 6 years. I average about 6,000 miles per year, and if I multiply that by 6 years, I get 36,000 miles. So I’ll probably pull the plugs and check at that point in time.

the last set of ngk standard iridiums were great, i dont remember exactly why I pulled them out, was either back when I was chasing down RFI demons or the 4,000-4200 RPM demon

but there was nothin wrong with them

I just changed mine at 29,000 miles to Autolite Double Platinum (APP5224) $3.99 each, and notice a major difference in performance.

I also run a K&N air filter in the stock air box, and a Thrush universal high performance muffler, both of which add to the over all performance and mileage.

MK4s only run good with NGK plugs. It was one of the pickiest vehicles I have ever owned. Good car though.
