So I got home tonight and plugged in the numbers on Fuelly and discovered that I was getting 18.6 mpg when my EVIC was telling me 19.3! How can it be that inaccurate? Does anyone know of a way to recalibrate it? My Jeep is totally stock with factory size tires on it.

I think the EVIC runs more of an overall average rather than a tank to tank average.

That is the way they all are. it only shows that drive cycles average. Hand calculated mileage is the only true number........

D*mn! :furious: I was pretty psyched when I thought I was getting over 19 mpg. Oh well...I know the Jeep ain't a hyper-miler by any means, but I like to experiment sometimes.

After I get the low fuel light, I can usually go another 30-40 miles. If I refill immediately after the light comes on, I'll only put in about 15 gallons to full. The closest I ever came to draining the tank, I ended up putting 17.9 gallons in a 18.5 gal tank. I think I drove over 50 miles after the light came on. That was a close one!

I have run out of gas twice.

both times 28.6 miles ON THE NOSE after the light came on.

I might have the most consistent libby on here.

The EVIC calculates the MPG based on information from the PCM and it get's it's information from the rear axle sensor. The programing of the PCM it may not be perfect thus displaying the incorrect miles per hour and miles traveled. Plus it averages out your MPG.

I think the most accurate way of calculating your MPG will be using a GPS to keep track of your miles traveled since your odometer is likely inaccurate too.

I think they make the EVIC show better performance, just to make everyone think they are getting good mileage, hah..

I have slightly smaller tires and the MPH gauge shows me about 7mph faster than true.

That's funny. Mine is the exact opposite. You would think the computer would calculate each of these from the same data.

The miles to empty is simply a scare tactic, but it's a nice one to have. I usually have about 2.5 gallons +/- a little after the light comes on and the MTE hits 0. I know I can safely go 35 miles (I've only pushed it further than that once and I started getting nervous) before filling up. Prior to reinstalling my factory airbox, I would average 280 miles on a tank. That was with my K&N FIPK. Now, my mileage has taken a noticeable jump running a Fram drop-in, so I'm estimating I'll average around 320 miles per tank. According to UPS, my Amsoil drop-in should be waiting for me when I get home - thanks again JJ and everyone on the board who convinced me to get it! So after installing that, my mileage may go up another notch; we'll see!

I'm actually really impressed that the OP's EVIC was less than 1 mpg off. You should be happy. Keep in mind that the EVIC doesn't remember all data since the last time you reset it. It only displays the average for the last 100 miles or so, so if you filled up after 300 miles, it could be way different if driving conditions varied over the course of the tank.

An EVIC displays the average MPG and an OTIS displays the current MPG. I'd kinda like to have both features but it ain't gonna happen unless I hook up both of them.
hmmm... , maybe I can...
