Last year I bypassed my ac compressor when the pulley went.
Image
, Today I was backing out of the convenience store and heard a snap. The tensioner pulley had broken off. Wish I had my camera so I could have got a pic. Its getting fixed at a local garage. I was wondering if it broke because I had bypassed the AC compressor?

It is very likely that the extreme angle imparted on the Tensioner could have put an unbearable strain on it causing it to fail prematurely.

but,

when was the last time you replaced the tensioner?

I have seen 3 other Libby's just destroy tensioner pulley for no apparent reason... All the parts places around here have the replacement pulleys for the tensioner in stock.

This was the first time I replaced my tensioner, May put in a new ac compressor when I get the chance. Right now I have to worry about replacing my cats. Failed the emissions. :JEEPIN:

The tensioner is a wear item, may last 50,000 or 100,000 like anything else you never know when

If the cats need replacing how many miles do you have on the KJ, may be under warranty yet.
