Call your provider and have your meter checked. In the winter mine runs in the 70-80 range and I think its high. There is no way that I could pay yours.
Unrelated but when propane was high they wanted me to prepay 2000.00 for it, I got an outdoor boiler incorporated it in my home equity loan for 100.00 a month more.Just got an offer for propane @1.49 a gallon capped @1.89. But I don't use 1000 gallons anymore.I had one fill of250 gallons in the fall of 07. Might get some in my tank at those prices, less then 06's.

Tekman, for DP&L this is catch-up month. Whatever you used in excess of your budget allotment gets made up this month. Had you used less than your allotment, your bill would have gone down for this month or possibly you could have received a credit. As this year has been unusual warm, you have probably run the A/C longer / harder resulting in the deficit. Assuming that your pay in full your budget payment for next month will probably increase starting next month to prevent this from happening again.

I don't have level billing, but running the pool pumps & A/C along with the heat hit me for $229 last month.

Well being everything is electric(electric water heater, electric heat,no gas what so ever) my summer electric bill is around $65-$75(even with the AC set at 70 degrees) and they get me for about $175-$190 in the winter. Not bad considering no gas bill to worry about.

mine averages 200-230 in the summer, Dec-March averages $400 per month. I would call them, sounds like your even billing needs adjusted and tell them you need to spread that new bill out over some months until you catch up.... and turn your AC up a couple * and do some sweatin' :SOMBRERO: We spread out our Jan bill, it's comes in @ 450-500 every year.

Used to be $240 to $260. Replaced the central air last year and the most it has been is $165. And last week we had a 108 and 109 degree day so it gets hot here.

Gas heat, gas hot water...so the winter electric bills are light, however with the central A/C running since May, the pool pump running since June, Electric clothes dryer that never stops running year round, and electric stove..... June, July and August electric bills usually run $300.00 +/-....less than $100.00 a month the rest of the year.....

my elec is tied in with sewer/water and I hate it that way

highest my elec has ever been was 2 months ago, 382 after subtracting water/sewer

My biggest gripe with water/sewer combos, is you get charged for sewer, even if it's not going in the sewer, ie: watering lawn or washing car

so the natural thing to do is call and have a garden well put in - to find out there's a moratorium? on wells being put in throughout the county...

so a concrete block comes out of the floor in the back of the garage, and a small hole gets put in a pvc pipe and a self drilled well is placed then you get a water bill for um.. almost 600 bucks.. :P

blamed on a leaking pipe of course.. which was fixed

theoretically speaking of course :P

last month was like $92. I have 2 10,000 BTU window shakers but I only used those a week or so during that billing cycle. I have a room mate that didn't understand to close the door to the non cooled 3rd floor so I took the units out and now we sweat it out with fans since I didn't want to pay to try to cool the whole town. I just got tired of sounding like my parents I guess. this months bill should be lower and the room mate will be leaving in a few months and I will not be getting another ever.

PA has rate caps that are deregulated in steps and we have passed one of them steps so the rates have spiked some.
