I hope you are right. I bet the fire did not last more than 4 or 5 min before I put it out.The brake controller got really hot and that is expensive. And not sure if it did anything to the ECM. My son that does re builders is worried about the high mileage 180,000 miles on it.

Yeah, you can get a low mileage engine from a wrecked KJ for fairly cheap. I’d do a full engine swap with all the necessary wiring.

There is a re builder coming up next week 04 hit in the side needs two doors fender and some work to the back and it has 59,000 miles on it. Should be able to pick it up for around 1,700 to 1,900. So thats a possibility. Already talking about a weekend(may be more than one) wrenchfest to rebuild and exchange all the parts off of mine onto another jeep.(including, lift, rock rails, roof rack,hd cooling, trans cooler, front diff/dtt) We are much better at the body work than engine work and it will go much faster. There would be four of us working on it at the same time. But with that said i still hope we can save mine. It would sure be less work. I will not miss Pastafari.

Oh snap  That is horrible. Glad you're ok and that you were able to stop the fire so quickly. My best friend lost one of his automobiles because of an engine fire out in the middle of nowhere.

You're an example of what a true enthusiast is... hopefully you'll be an inspiration to others who can't seem to get out to local events for lame reasons let alone having to re-outfit your Jeep completely in time to drive 1/2 a nation away to be part of one... Godspeed.

I was looking at a couple of used Liberty's yesterday. Looking under the hood on one I remembered when I installed the optima battery the battery leads needed to be swapped. One of the ones i looked at (the 04) leads where also swapped and the positive cable was only about a inch from the brake lines. And the optima is a much bigger Battery than the battery in the liberty I was looking at. Hmmmm..........

Glad to hear you are ok.
I've seen a bunch of KJ stuff here in the Kansas City and Lawrence Craigslist now and again. Where you are is a little bit of a hike for me to be away from my wife who is due to pop anytime now, but if you see anything here you need I would be more than happy to pick it up for you so you wouldnt miss out on anything if you'd like.

Glad you're safe and sound and already getting back on the horse - saddling up another KJ right away with all your gear is a real enthusiast!

Don't know about the 04 but my libby's battery cabling and top of the wiring harness are way too short or too tight. Changing batteries or adding auxiliary electrical looks to be a real PITA - and even dangerous. If I do mess around with electrical, might use shielded wearproof high gauge welding wire... perhaps also take a look at starter wire with that in mind.

Not sure where you're looking for wrecks but I have used local auctions, gov't auctions and more recently got access through a buddy at Adesa (I use Canadian version) http://www.adesa.com and also http://www.copart.com - seems like you guys in the US have literally thousands of KJs up on the blocks at any time if you add it all up.

Best of luck getting another Liberty!

(Am going to go surf for fire extinguisher prices at my local shops now...)

I sold my liberty to my son on Thursday. And he got it running and drove it home last night.
Kinda Sad to see it go,on only a hundred dollars worth of used parts. Although I did make money on the deal. But he is going to keep it and go off roading with me. I was going to sell parts off of it but now they will get used. And we will soon have three lifted liberty's in the family. 8)

He does work on cars for a living, so it's good to see the libby live on. And it will be on the trails. 8)
