If it started 6 months after being assembled you'd have a pretty big hole back there by now from where you live. What caused it for you is going offroad and the 3rd brake housing rubbed through the paint from panel flex, salt go into it and from not being waxed/washed often enough the rust spread.
Do you work for Chrysler?

Sounds like the explaination I would hear from the dealership if trying to make a claim on this.
Doesn't fly. As I said, the paint was intact, no rub through or signs of wear anywhere except the bubbles. This area of the KJ is about as far away from the road salt as any area on the vehicle and I regularly wash and wax my KJ. It rarely goes 2 weeks without being washed and I hand wax twice a year. My KJ is garaged, I have an old truck I use for winter driving once the snow is cleared and the salt is down. Finally, there are plenty of scratches and dings in my paint, none of them have coroded any where near the extent that the metal under this completely intact paint had corroded.
I didn't notice any signs of galvanization as I was fixing this.
Better explanations -
Galvanization dip process flawed and this part of the unibody didn't get proper coverage.
Metal in this area had defects introduced during stamping that allowed corrosion after paint applied.
Paint process flawed, paint too thin in this area or didn't get as many coats or sealer.
Improperly stored body panel, allowed corrosion to take hold before assembly.
