Hello everyone,
My wife has "LOST" the key in one of the worst neighborhoods in NYC. Now we can't visit our daughter there(or PARK at least) because someone would really hold onto the key for a long time.
What would you do?
If the key were stolen in your neighborhood, I'd be worried, since they would know what your vehicle looks like and where you park - but since it was lost and you were only visiting, chances are it'll just disappear.

I thought of reprogramming the transponders(FOBs) but that would mean I would have to do that to the BCM(computer) right???
Yup, but I can't imagine that is a very involved process.

Then there is the lock to deal with. Even if I reprogram the frequency on the Renny( so no one can try to find it), they can still try the key on any JEEP they want.
They can just buy a key off eBay and cut it randomly and try it in any jeep they want, too, but it's not a very valuable way to spend their time.

Just changing the locks means that I CAN park there(why would I?) but I can come back find it vandalized.
If it's that bad a neighborhood, I wouldn't really expect the locks to stop anything. Most of the time, when somebody breaks into a car, they just steal stuff out of it, they don't steal the actual car. Car theft is really easy to trace compared to stereo and personals theft. In any case, somebody willing to commit a car theft will probably have other ways to do it anyway.

Should I just change it all? How much would ita ll be?
You should ask the dealer what it would cost to get a new key FOB and reprogram all of them to a new code (explain the situation, even). I'm betting that changing all the codes wouldn't be that much more than just programming a single one, so if you want another FOB you may as well. You should also ask them what it costs just to reprogram without purchasing a FOB (as they seem to be inexpensive on eBay).
