Yep, my GDE tune has special coding to prevent all futrue FCV errors from triggering a DTC/CEL.
That's what I thought. I went the GDE route assuming I was offsetting the $500 cost of the tune against a $360 FCV replacement only to find that it simply masks the CEL but the DTC is still there

The thing is that the emissions test here involves connecting to the OBD port and scanning for codes. Masking the CEL just won't cut it.

There is a place that was discussed here in the past, that refurbishes them by replacing the plastic gears with metal ones.
I've read this before but was unable to find the original discussion. Even so it would need to be a diy replacement as I can't afford a month of downtime while my FCV is in the mail system.
I have, however, read many suggestions that the plastic gears were a feature of early 05's and by the 06 mode year they had upgraded to metal. Anyone know if there's any truth in this?
