Not that I try to be funny, but now, the provent 200 is about 140 from idparts. So it's less than 2 full tanks, lol. Idparts also sells the filter for provent. Even if the filter gets clogged, the release valve should protect the engine from over pressure.

Here's a Provent for about $117 http://www.diesel-filters.com/393107055 ... f-highway/

A couple of us are experimenting with putting Scotch Brite material in the top chamber of the CCV, in order to condense some of the oil vapor before it goes to our Provents. Many old day pvc valves emptied into filter material in the old style air filters so this isn't somehing new. Right now I'm using a catch bottle for the Provent oil to go into. When the weather gets warmer, I'll figure out a way to "plumb" the drippings into the pan. It is very surprising the amount of oil that the Provent catches, 1 to 2 ounces per 1000 miles.

Interesting. Can't wait to get in on that action! :D

Hmmm... $20 cheaper. Just a better deal, or is it missing something? Maybe they make it up in s/h?

Also wondering about the "check valve" ($29). Is that something I need to order additionally, or does it come with the actual Provent? I'm assuming the "oil separator element" (also $29) is like a filter that you replace once it's all gunked up.

Provent does not come with the valve.

I have 2 other older diesels (bmw524td & 300tdi) with their own coalescing oil vapor devices. Neither have a valve in the oil return line out of the device. The reads I've done say this, "IF the return oil line returns BELOW the level of oil in the pan, THEN no valve required. If the oil is returned ABOVE the oil level in the pan then install the valve. BUT both of my older engines with NO valve, returns the oil above the oil level in the pan, so I don't know what to think.

I will install the valve in my return line when I figure out where to drop the oil back into the pan BUT I'm going to use one made by Parker/Raycor. I may have to "hose the line all the way around to the dip stick & "Y"into it somewhere low there. I hope to be able to splice into the tubo oil return pipe there again with a "Y" type adapter brazed onto that return line.

Here's the valve I bought, half the price of the Mann unit.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Racor-CCV55279- ... mtr&_uhb=1

Other companies make these oil vapor coalescing devices, Parker/Raycor, Bendix, Donaldson are just a few other I have found. There coalescing devices are mostly necessary to bring down the emissions to meet newer EPA so called "rules". All big trucks will soon have them to meet the new rules and to keep particulates out of the exhaust.

Just ordered my ProVent from the Diesel-Filters.com link (thanks, MacGyver --saved me around $30).

Can't wait to get it installed and also check out the puck mod discussion in more detail.

With a Provent and GDE tune the intake and MAP sensor is clean.

If I may:
I find this thread really interesting.
I run Mobil 0W-40 (presently) and have been relying on the puck. Just recently I finished fabricating a tricky little mount for one of the Landrover cyclone separators but it is not connected. I feel no great urgency......I explain below.
I run Samcos.
I calibrated my dipstick really early in ownership.

My puck is rarely dirty - but I clean it twice a year with just a quick spray of degreaser and a wash then a light blowout with compressed air. There is, after about 6 months of running a weep from the interface between puck and rocker cover. When I see this I clean it.

After 20 000miles (approx) I noted a weep at the inlet side of the Intercooler.
Immediately removed hose expecting oil filth.

It had only gathered to a film considerably less than 1/64 inch max and at its widest part 3/16" wide in the bottom of the hose. Not much realy as a volume. It did not even weigh a gram once added to the cloth. So it really was just a weep from the bottom of the hose/clamp join. Bore scope revealed remarkably clean internals of the aftercooer (as far in as I could get it).
