Hmmm... $20 cheaper. Just a better deal, or is it missing something? Maybe they make it up in s/h?
Also wondering about the "check valve" ($29). Is that something I need to order additionally, or does it come with the actual Provent? I'm assuming the "oil separator element" (also $29) is like a filter that you replace once it's all gunked up.
Provent does not come with the valve.
I have 2 other older diesels (bmw524td & 300tdi) with their own coalescing oil vapor devices. Neither have a valve in the oil return line out of the device. The reads I've done say this, "IF the return oil line returns BELOW the level of oil in the pan, THEN no valve required. If the oil is returned ABOVE the oil level in the pan then install the valve. BUT both of my older engines with NO valve, returns the oil above the oil level in the pan, so I don't know what to think.
I will install the valve in my return line when I figure out where to drop the oil back into the pan BUT I'm going to use one made by Parker/Raycor. I may have to "hose the line all the way around to the dip stick & "Y"into it somewhere low there. I hope to be able to splice into the tubo oil return pipe there again with a "Y" type adapter brazed onto that return line.
Here's the valve I bought, half the price of the Mann unit.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Racor-CCV55279- ... mtr&_uhb=1Other companies make these oil vapor coalescing devices, Parker/Raycor, Bendix, Donaldson are just a few other I have found. There coalescing devices are mostly necessary to bring down the emissions to meet newer EPA so called "rules". All big trucks will soon have them to meet the new rules and to keep particulates out of the exhaust.
