I think we also have to consider the vehicle and the weight we have to push down the road . Many of these hyper milers lighten their rides, take off anything they can including mirrors and gear that they have no low end any more hardly. Where we may do better going with lower gearing ( i.e. 4.10s) they go say 3.21s etc. They take forever to get to say 55 and then want the lowest RPM at that speed. Where as if we did that on the KJ/KK line up it would be lugging down the engine and the transmission would be having a fit.
For me I have found getting up to speed as quickly as possible and having the engine running at its sweet spot does better .
I only watch my speed / mileage now due to this person called Gageraid :!:
Never cared before now he's gotten me all twisted up in it :goink: :ROTFL:

 Just trying to throw my knowledge on the subject with my fellow Lost members.
If I get better mileage with this technique I will come to Ohio to shake your hand, Tom.
Not gonna lie she runs great at higher rpms and even sounds good 8) . If it gets me better mileage I won't ask questions and will just accept it.

Hi Gage,

I never was able to get 18+ mpg in the city even before switching to larger tires. Either your Hypertech programmer is helping a lot or you have some mad driving skills, or both. I am curious what % of your better mileage you would credit to the Hypertech programmer vs. your hypermiling techniques?

Cheers,
Lauren

P.S. When I eventually regear I hope to get back up to close to stock mileage!

I've ridden in Tom's Jeep on those straight flat Ohio back roads. His Scangauge was reporting 23.5 mpg at about 50-55 mph, where my KK would be lucky to get 17. Regearing makes a big difference if you have larger tires like we do.

It's a lot of both. Hypertech tuning is more efficient than regular tuning throughout partial throttle operation because of it's sophistication. I bet I gain atleast an extra mpg just from my hypermiling techniques.
I have never been on a really long trip yet with my ScanGauge2, but I always notice the further I go, the easier it is for me to get the trip to show over 17 mpg. From home to work is usually 10-14 mpg.

Those are the numbers I see at that speed as well.
