I think we also have to consider the vehicle and the weight we have to push down the road . Many of these hyper milers lighten their rides, take off anything they can including mirrors and gear that they have no low end any more hardly. Where we may do better going with lower gearing ( i.e. 4.10s) they go say 3.21s etc. They take forever to get to say 55 and then want the lowest RPM at that speed. Where as if we did that on the KJ/KK line up it would be lugging down the engine and the transmission would be having a fit.
For me I have found getting up to speed as quickly as possible and having the engine running at its sweet spot does better .
I only watch my speed / mileage now due to this person called Gageraid
Never cared before now he's gotten me all twisted up in it

Just trying to throw my knowledge on the subject with my fellow Lost members.
If I get better mileage with this technique I will come to Ohio to shake your hand, Tom.
Not gonna lie she runs great at higher rpms and even sounds good

. If it gets me better mileage I won't ask questions and will just accept it.
