Unfortunately need to resurrect thread. Issue with CRD has returned  . The only way I can now run jeep is with ASD relay by-passed.
Vehicle has been trouble free since last post above, but approx 3 weeks ago intermittent starting(no crank) returned. I have re-checked all relevant wiring for shorts, correct resistance, voltage etc. via Jeep WI to no avail. Evidence again pointed towards ECM which I duly sent back to be retested under warranty. ECM has been tested with no fault found? I am now thinking that it maybe a SKIS issue as the immobiliser light on dash illuminates, flashes once and then stays on permanently, with no MIL light illuminated at all. The MIL light should illuminate when key is turned to on position, but is not?
I have also found a few worrying wiring routing/protection issues during my investigations(pics taken), which I think are from factory and also numerous mistakes in the workshop instruction schedules manual, especially the wiring diagrams.
I have spent way too many hours trying to rectify issue and now believe it has to go to Jeep dealer for correct DRB111 diagnostics. My VCDS(VAG-COM) tool will only read ODB11 functions, and it will not even do that if the ASD relay is not jumped (30-87). Any help whatsoever is greatly appreciated.

If the SKIS light stays goes ON then the ECM is happy that the correct SKIM code has been sent to the it...the ECM.....
but it should not stay ON.
The ECM then energizes the ASD relay and expects feedback from the ASD relay that it...the ASD relay...has energized properly at which point the light should go out. First swap out the ASD relay with a one next to it.

I had the exact same problem.....one of the leads coming from the ECM to the coil side of the ASD relay had broken so although the ECM told the ASD relay to energize...this did not happen. By jumpering pins 30 and 87 together in the ASD relay socket you are fooling the ECU that the ASD relay has in fact energized.

You need to check with a meter that pin 86 on the relay does get +12 volts via fuse 6 (30 A) in the box under the hood and that pin 85 does go direct to ground..this is a Brown/White wire which goes to connector C2 pin 34 on the ECM...you need to trace this wire from the relay to the ECM pin to check for a break. Or else the ECM is doing its job of not grounding the relay due to something such as the "Park" or "N" interlocks not working....have you tried starting it in "N" instead of "Park"?

I presume you do have the circuit diagrams for your 2006 CRD to check these out?

Thanks once again for your reply Billwill. I will re-check once again, but I have already checked for power and ground to and from ASD relay and all is good? I believe it is pin 44 in C2 of ECM that is connected to 85 of ASD relay? I will post again when I've re-checked. I may also post the pics of wiring that I've found during my 'journey to the truth', but will contact Jeep UK first to discuss first.

Thanks for your interest, the truck is just too good to give up on, 52000 miles 06 model and it is a manual , so has clutch interlock which is also not the issue.

Cheers

Agreed...it should be a Brown/White wire going to pin 44 on connector C2 of the ECM.

Does the ASD relay energize?

You should see +12 volts shift to pin 87 if the ASD relay is energizing.....if the ASD relay is not energizing it means the ECM is not happy with something! :?

Re-checked for continuity at control circuit on pin 44 C2 ECM and 85 in ASD 0.1 ohms all good. Also got +12V at 86 and 30 on ASD relay pins in PDC. So I can only think that the ECM is not switching to allow vehicle to crank? Jeep is now at dealership, I've explained all I've done, what I've found and and all symptoms, so I'm now in their hands :? I hope their computer is able to pick up something that I cannot find. Fingers crossed.
I will post again as soon as I know.

Cheers

Update on Jeep, dealer checked with computer and said that both keys were still OK and not causing any SKIS error, so continued to investigate fault at relevant circuits to and from ECM. All wiring tested OK, so they also thought that indeed there was a fault in the ECM. After removing ECM to replace with another they had available, they realised that their ECM was not compatible :?:, so they re-installed the original. Now, wait for it, the vehicle energised ASD relay on turn of key (position 2) and started as normal when key turned to start. (position 3). :D :o  So now neither they or I know why? :?

The Jeep has now been behaving itself for the last 6 days, running as new with no issues whatsoever. The dealership obviously charged their rates for 2.5 hrs of investigations, but could not actually pinpoint fault, so we will see :JEEPIN:

Cheers again for your replies.
